Chapter 196 · The festival ends; Śiva's secret · Verses 1–

Nobody knew the secret of the long day. The sun moves on at last, singing the Lord's praises, and the gods, sages and nāgas go home praising their good fortune. Śiva tells Pārvatī a secret of his own: he and the crow Bhuśuṇḍi were there in human form and no one knew them. They wandered the streets full of love, forgetting themselves. Only those who have Rāma's grace can understand this story. The king gave each person whatever he liked, elephants, chariots, horses, gold, cows, diamonds and cloth, and everyone, satisfied, blessed his sons with long life.

No one knew this secret. The sun then moved on, singing the Lord's praises. Having seen the great festival, the gods, sages and nāgas went home, praising their own good fortune.

'Girijā, listen: I will tell you one more thing of my own secret, for your mind is very firm. Kāka Bhuśuṇḍi and I, the two of us, were there in human form, and no one knew us.

Swelling with supreme bliss and the joy of love, we wandered the streets absorbed, forgetting ourselves. Only that person can understand this holy story on whom Rāma's grace falls.
