Hearing the baby's dear cry, all the queens come hurrying, the maidservants run about gladly and the whole city is lost in bliss. When Daśaratha hears of his son's birth he feels the bliss of Brahman itself, and though he longs to rise, he steadies his mind. He says the Lord whose very name brings good has come into his house, and orders the instruments to be played. Vasiṣṭha and the brahmins come, and see the peerless child, a heap of beauty whose virtues cannot be told to their end. The king performs the Nandīmukha rite and all the birth ceremonies, and gives brahmins gold, cows, clothes and jewels.शिशु का अति प्रिय रोना सुनकर सब रानियाँ घबराहट में दौड़ी आईं, दासियाँ आनंद में जहाँ-तहाँ दौड़ीं और सारे नगरवासी आनंद में मग्न हो गए। दशरथ ने पुत्र-जन्म का समाचार कानों से सुना तो मानो ब्रह्मानंद में डूब गए; उठना चाहते थे पर बुद्धि को स्थिर किया। वे बोले कि जिनका नाम सुनते ही शुभ होता है, वही प्रभु मेरे घर आए हैं, और बाजे बजवाने की आज्ञा दी। गुरु वसिष्ठ को बुलावा गया और वे ब्राह्मणों सहित राजद्वार पर आए; उन्होंने जाकर अनुपम बालक को देखा, जो रूप का भंडार था और जिसके गुण कहने से समाप्त नहीं होते। राजा ने नांदीमुख श्राद्ध करके सब जातकर्म किए और ब्राह्मणों को सोना, गायें, वस्त्र और मणियाँ दीं।

Hearing the baby's cry, that most dear sound, all the queens came hurrying in excitement. Maidservants ran about gladly here and there, and all the people of the city were drowned in bliss.

दशरथ ने कानों से पुत्र-जन्म सुना तो मानो ब्रह्मानंद में समा गए। मन में परम प्रेम था, शरीर पुलकित था; वे उठना चाहते थे, पर बुद्धि को धीर कर लिया।
When Daśaratha heard of his son's birth, it was like the bliss of Brahman itself. His heart was full of love, his body thrilled; he wished to rise, but kept his mind steady.

'जिनका नाम सुनते ही शुभ होता है, वही प्रभु मेरे घर आए हैं!' राजा का मन परमानंद से भर गया; उन्होंने लोगों को बुलाकर कहा, 'बाजे बजवाओ।'
'He by whose very name good comes to all, that Lord has come into my house!' The king, his heart full of supreme joy, called his people and said, 'Have the instruments played.'

A summons went to Vasiṣṭha, the guru, and he came with brahmins to the king's door. They went in and saw the peerless child, a heap of beauty, whose virtues cannot be told to the end.
