The merciful Lord appears before Kausalyā, dark as a rain cloud, with four arms, weapons, ornaments and a garland of forest flowers. The mother is overjoyed, then folds her hands and praises him as beyond qualities and illusion: the one in whose every pore hang whole universes has been in her womb, and she cannot keep her mind steady. The Lord smiles and tells her a story so that she will love him as a son. She asks him to give up this form and do childish play. Hearing her, the Lord becomes a baby and begins to cry. He took this human form for brahmins, cows, gods and saints. कृपालु प्रभु कौसल्या के सामने प्रकट हुए: मेघ के समान श्याम शरीर, चार भुजाएँ, हाथों में आयुध, आभूषण और वनमाला। माता हर्ष से भर गईं; फिर हाथ जोड़कर बोलीं कि आप गुण और माया से परे अनंत हैं, जिनके रोम-रोम में ब्रह्मांड समाए हैं, वे मेरे गर्भ में रहे — यह सुनकर तो धीर की भी बुद्धि स्थिर नहीं रहती। प्रभु मुसकाए और माता को ऐसी कथा सुनाई कि वे पुत्र के रूप में प्रेम करें। माता ने कहा कि यह रूप छोड़िए और बाल-लीला कीजिए। सुनकर प्रभु शिशु बन गए और रोने लगे। उन्होंने ब्राह्मण, गौ, देवता और संतों के हित के लिए यह मनुष्य शरीर धारण किया।

The Vedas say that in every pore of your body are whole hosts of universes made by illusion. That one lived in my womb. This is laughable; hearing it, even the steady lose their steadiness.' When knowledge arose in her, the Lord smiled; he wished to do many kinds of play. He told his mother a charming story, so that she would feel love for him as a son.

छंद ४छंद 4 माता पुनि बोली सो मति डौली तजहु तात यह रूपा। कीजै सिसुलीला अति प्रियसीला यह सुख परम अनूपा ॥ सुनि बचन सुजाना रोदन ठाना होइ बालक सुरभूपा। यह चरित जे गावहिं हरिपद पावहिं ते न परहिं भवकूपा ॥

mātā puni bolī so mati ḍaulī tajahu tāta yaha rūpā | kījai sisulīlā ati priyasīlā yaha sukha parama anūpā | suni bacana sujānā rodana ṭhānā hoi bālaka surabhūpā | yaha carita je gāvahiṃ haripada pāvahiṃ te na parahiṃ bhavakūpā ||
