Chapter 184·The Earth goes to Brahmā·Verses 1–
Thieves, gamblers and lechers multiply and make holy men serve them. Śiva tells Pārvatī that anyone who lives like this should be known as a demon. Seeing righteousness decline, the Earth is terrified and says that mountains, rivers and seas do not weigh on her as one who betrays others does. She takes the form of a cow, goes to the gods and sages, and weeps out her sorrow, but none of them can help. Together they go to Brahmā's world. Brahmā understands, says it is beyond his power, and tells the Earth to be patient and remember Hari's feet.

Wicked men multiplied: thieves, gamblers and lechers who lusted after others' wealth and wives. They honoured neither mother, father nor gods, and made holy men serve them.
Verse 2

'Mountains, rivers and seas are no burden to me,' she thought, 'as one who betrays others weighs on me.' She saw all righteousness turned upside down, but could not speak, for fear of Rāvaṇa.
Verse 4

After thinking it over she took the form of a cow and went to where the gods and sages were gathered. Weeping, she told them her sorrow, but none of them could do anything.

The gods, sages and gandharvas all gathered and went to Brahmā's world. With them went poor Earth in the form of a cow, deeply distressed with fear and grief. Brahmā understood everything and thought to himself, 'This is beyond my power. The imperishable one whose maidservant you are is the helper of both you and me.'

'Earth, be patient,' said Brahmā; 'remember Hari's feet. The Lord knows his people's pain and will break this terrible trouble.'
