दसमुख बसबर्ती नर नारी
Rāvaṇa calls Meghanāda, stirs up his strength and hatred, and sends him to defeat the brave gods and bring them back bound. Then he sets out himself with a mace. The earth shakes as he marches, and the gods hide in the caves of Mount Meru. He finds the worlds of the guardians of the directions empty, roars and challenges everyone, and finds no opponent. The sun, moon, wind, fire, Yama and all the rest, and every being Brahmā made, obey him in fear. By the strength of his arms he wins the daughters of gods, yakṣas, gandharvas, men, kinnaras and nāgas.रावण मेघनाद को बुलाकर उसका बल और बैर बढ़ाता है और भेजता है कि जो वीर देवता हैं उन्हें जीतकर बाँध लाओ। फिर वह स्वयं गदा लेकर चल पड़ता है। उसके चलने से धरती डोलती है और देवता मेरु की गुफाओं में छिपने लगते हैं। दिक्पालों के लोक उसे सूने मिलते हैं; वह गरजकर सबको ललकारता है, पर सामने कोई नहीं आता। सूर्य, चंद्रमा, पवन, अग्नि, यम और ब्रह्मा की सृष्टि के सब प्राणी भयभीत होकर उसकी आज्ञा मानते हैं। अपने बाहुबल से वह देवता, यक्ष, गंधर्व, मनुष्य, किन्नर और नागों की कन्याओं को जीतकर ब्याह लेता है।

defeat them in battle and bring them to me bound.' The son rose and took his father's order on his shoulders. In this way Rāvaṇa gave orders to everyone, and himself set out with a mace in his hand.

रावण के चलते ही धरती डोलने लगी; उसकी गर्जना से देवताओं की स्त्रियों के गर्भ गिर जाते थे। देवताओं ने सुना कि रावण क्रोध में आ रहा है तो वे मेरु पर्वत की गुफाएँ ढूँढ़ने लगे।
As Rāvaṇa marched, the earth shook; at his roar the gods' wives lost their unborn children. The gods heard that Rāvaṇa was coming in anger, and looked for caves in Mount Meru to hide in.

४4दिगपालन्ह के लोक सुहाए। सूने सकल दसानन पाए ॥पुनि पुनि सिंघनाद करि भारी। देइ देवतन्ह गारि पचारी ॥

दिशाओं के रक्षकों के सुंदर लोक रावण को सब सूने मिले। वह बार-बार भारी सिंहनाद करता और देवताओं को गाली देकर ललकारता।
He found the lovely worlds of the guardians of the directions all empty. Again and again he gave great lion-roars, hurling abuse and challenges at the gods.

किन्नर, सिद्ध, मनुष्य, देवता, नाग — सबके पीछे वह हठपूर्वक पड़ गया। जहाँ तक ब्रह्मा की सृष्टि है, जितने भी शरीरधारी स्त्री-पुरुष हैं, सब रावण के वश में हो गए।
the kinnaras, siddhas, men, gods and nāgas: he stubbornly went after every one of them. As far as Brahmā's creation reaches, every embodied being, man or woman, came under Rāvaṇa's sway.

अपनी भुजाओं के बल से उसने सारे विश्व को वश में कर रखा; कोई स्वतंत्र न रहा। छोटे राजाओं का शिरोमणि रावण अपनी ही सलाह से राज करने लगा।
By the strength of his arms he held the whole world in subjection; no one was free. Rāvaṇa, the jewel among petty kings, ruled by his own counsel.
