After giving the boons, Brahmā left, and the three came home glad. Maya's daughter, named Mandodarī, a very lovely wife, was given to Rāvaṇa by Maya, who knew that he would be lord of the demons. Rāvaṇa was glad to get a good wife, and then the two brothers also went and married. In the sea was a mountain named Trikūṭa, made by Brahmā, hard to reach and huge. Maya the demon rebuilt it, making countless golden and jewelled mansions. Like Bhogavatī where the snake-race lives, like Amarāvatī where Indra lives, but more beautiful and curious than they, the city was known to the world as Laṅkā. A deep moat of the sea went around it on all sides, and a strong wall of gold set with jewels was beyond describing. The poet adds: whoever, in whichever age, is sent by Hari to be lord of the demons, a brave, powerful and unmatched hero, lives there with his army.वर देकर ब्रह्मा चले गए और वे तीनों प्रसन्न होकर घर आए। मय की पुत्री मंदोदरी नाम की परम सुन्दर और श्रेष्ठ स्त्री थी। उसे मय ने रावण को लाकर दिया, यह जानकर कि वह राक्षसों का स्वामी होगा। रावण अच्छी स्त्री पाकर प्रसन्न हुआ, और फिर दोनों भाइयों ने भी जाकर विवाह किया। समुद्र के बीच त्रिकूट नाम का एक पर्वत था, जिसे विधाता ने बनाया था और जो अत्यन्त दुर्गम और बहुत बड़ा था। उसे मय दानव ने फिर सँवारा और सोने से रचे अपार मणि-भवन बनाए। जैसे नागों का वास भोगवती है, जैसे इन्द्र का निवास अमरावती है, उनसे भी अधिक सुन्दर और अनोखा वह नगर संसार में लंका के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुआ। उसके चारों ओर समुद्र की अति गहरी खाई घूमती थी, और मणियों से जड़ा दृढ़ सोने का परकोटा था, जिसकी बनावट बखानी नहीं जा सकती। हरि की प्रेरणा से जिस कल्प में जो भी राक्षसों का स्वामी होता है, वह शूर, प्रतापी, अतुल बल वाला अपनी सेना समेत वहीं बसता है।
