'So I stay hidden in the world. Apart from Hari I have no need of anything. The Lord knows everything without being told; what is the gain in pleasing people?' Then he went on: 'You are pure and wise, very dear to me, and your love and trust for me are great. If I hide anything from you now, I will do myself terrible harm.' The more the ascetic spoke in detachment, the more trust grew in the king. When the sage saw him under his control in deed, mind and word, the cheat in the guise of a heron-sage spoke: 'My name is Ekatanu, brother.' Hearing it, the king bowed his head again and said, 'Tell me, explain the meaning of the name; I am your servant, as you know.' He said: 'When the first creation arose, then I came to be. For that reason I am called Ekatanu, because I have taken no body since.''
