Chapter 116·Saguṇa and Nirguṇa are not two·Verses 1–
There is no difference between the Absolute with and without qualities: sages, Purāṇas, wise men and the Vedas sing it. The one who is without quality, form, sight or birth becomes with form through the love of devotees. How can one without qualities have qualities? As water and ice are not apart. One whose name is a sun to the darkness of confusion, how can he be spoken of with delusion? Rāma is being, knowledge and joy, a sun; in him there is not a trace of the night of delusion. He is naturally light, and there is no wisdom-dawn in him either. Joy and sorrow, knowing and not knowing, are the traits of the soul, with its sense of I. Rāma is Brahman, all-pervading, known as supreme joy, supreme lord, ancient. The well-known Person, ocean of light, visible, Lord of high and low, jewel of the Raghus: that is my Lord, said Śiva, and bowed his head.

How can the one without qualities be the one with qualities? Just as water and ice are not different. One whose name is a sun to the darkness of confusion, how can one speak of delusion in connection with him?

Joy and sorrow, knowing and not knowing: these are the traits of the individual soul, its pride of 'I'. Rāma is Brahman, the all-pervading, known as supreme joy, supreme lord, the ancient.

That well-known Person, the sea of light, plainly seen, Lord of the high and the low, the jewel of the Raghus' line, is my master: so saying Śiva bowed his head.
