Chapter 106 · Śiva under the banyan · Verses 1–

Those who turn away from Hari and Hara and have no love for dharma never go there, even in dreams. On that mountain stands a huge banyan tree, ever new and lovely in all seasons. Three kinds of breeze blow and its shade is cool; the Vedas say it is Śiva's resting place. Once the Lord went under it, and seeing the tree he was very glad at heart. With his own hands he spread the elephant-enemy's tiger skin and sat there naturally, kind Śambhu. His body is fair as jasmine or the moon or a conch, his arms long, his dress a sage's cloth. His feet are like young red lotuses, and the shine of his nails removes the darkness in devotees' hearts. Snakes and ash are the ornaments of the destroyer of Tripura, and his face puts autumn's moon to shame. Matted-hair crown, the Gaṅgā on his head, wide lotus eyes, blue throat, a treasure of beauty, and a young moon on his brow.
