गुर पद कमल प्रनामु करि
Bharata thinks that Time, in the guise of his mother, has played an evil trick, like calamity striking a ripening rice crop. He cannot see one way for Rāma to be anointed. Rāma will surely return if he honours the teacher's order, and the sage will speak knowing Rāma's wish. Rāma might come back if his mother asked, but would Rāma's own mother ever insist? What is he, a mere servant, in all this, with fate against him at a bad time? If he insists, that is a very wicked deed, for a servant's duty is heavier than Mount Kailāsa. Not one plan settles in his mind and the night passes in thought. At dawn he bathes, bows to the Lord and sits; the sage sends a call. He bows at the teacher's lotus feet and sits with leave, and brāhmaṇs, leading men, ministers and courtiers gather.भरत सोचते हैं कि काल ने माता के बहाने कुचाल की, जैसे पकती हुई धान की फसल पर ईति आ पड़े। राम का अभिषेक किस प्रकार हो, मुझे एक भी उपाय नहीं सूझता। गुरु की आज्ञा मानकर राम अवश्य लौटेंगे, और मुनि राम की रुचि जानकर ही कहेंगे। माता के कहने से रघुराज लौट सकते हैं, पर क्या राम की माता कभी हठ करेंगी? मुझ अनुचर की इसमें क्या बात, और उस पर कुसमय में विधाता प्रतिकूल है। यदि मैं हठ करूँ तो बहुत बुरा कर्म होगा, क्योंकि सेवक का धर्म शिव के पर्वत से भी भारी है। एक भी युक्ति मन में नहीं ठहरी और सोचते-सोचते भरत की रात बीत गई। प्रातः स्नान करके प्रभु को प्रणाम कर बैठे ही थे कि ऋषि ने बुलावा भेजा। गुरु के चरणकमलों को प्रणाम कर, आज्ञा पाकर बैठे; ब्राह्मण, महाजन, मन्त्री और सब सभासद आकर जुट गए।

गुरु की आज्ञा मानकर वे अवश्य लौटेंगे, और मुनि राम की रुचि जानकर ही कहेंगे। माता के कहने से रघुराज लौट सकते हैं, पर क्या राम की माता कभी हठ करेंगी?
Surely he will return if he honours the teacher's order, and the sage will speak knowing Rāma's wish. If his mother asked, Raghurāja might return, but would Rāma's mother ever insist?

३3मोहि अनुचर कर केतिक बाता। तेहि महँ कुसमउ बाम बिधाता ॥जौं हठ करउँ त निपट कुकरमू। हरगिरि तें गुरु सेवक धरमू ॥

मुझ अनुचर की इसमें क्या बात, और उस पर कुसमय में विधाता प्रतिकूल है। यदि मैं हठ करूँ तो बहुत बुरा कर्म होगा; सेवक का धर्म शिव के पर्वत से भी भारी है।
What am I, a mere servant, in this, and with fate against me in a bad time? If I insist, that is a very wicked deed; a servant's duty is heavier than Mount Kailāsa.

४4एकउ जुगुति न मन ठहरानी। सोचत भरतहि रैनि बिहानी ॥प्रात नहाइ प्रभुहि सिर नाई। बैठत पठए रिषयँ बोलाई ॥
