Chapter 251·The Kols and Bhils speak of themselves·Verses 1–
The forest people say: 'You are dear guests who have set foot in the forest; our fortune is not worthy of serving you. What can we give you, Lord? Only firewood, leaves and the friendship of Kirātas. Our great service is that we do not steal your pots and clothes. We are dull creatures who kill living beings, crooked, wicked, low-born. Day and night pass in sin; we have no cloth on our waists and never fill our bellies. How could we think of dharma even in a dream? This is the power of seeing Raghunandana. Since we saw the Lord's lotus feet, our unbearable pains and faults are gone.' Hearing them, the townspeople are moved and praise their fortune; hearing the speech of Kol and Bhil women, men and women feel small about their own love. By the grace of the jewel of the Raghu line, even iron floats, carried by a gourd. The people, all glad, roam the forest on every side.

This is our great service, that we do not steal your pots and clothes. We are dull creatures, killers of living beings, crooked, evil in conduct, evil-minded, low-born.

All praised their fortune and told loving words, and seeing their speech and meeting and their love for the feet of Sītā and Rāma, they were glad. Hearing the speech of Kol and Bhil women, men and women scorned their own love. Tulsī says: by the grace of the jewel of the Raghu line, iron floats, borne by a gourd.

The people, all glad, roamed the forest on every side every day, like frogs and peacocks grown plump in the first rains.
