Chapter 250 · The forest people bring gifts · Verses 1–

The Kols, Kirātas, Bhils and other forest dwellers bring pure honey sweet as nectar, and roots, fruit and sprouts packed in leaf cups. They give to all with humble bows, naming the taste, kind and quality of each. People offer them a high price but they will not take it, and swear by Rāma as they hand it back. They say in loving, gentle words that the visitors are people of merit and they are low Niṣādas who have seen them by Rāma's grace. Their sight is as hard to get as the Gaṅgā in a desert. Rāma is kind and favours the Niṣāda, and his household and subjects should be like their king. Knowing this, let the visitors drop their shyness, see the love, and take the fruit and sprouts to make the givers content.

They spoke in gentle words, lost in love, and the good accepted it, recognising their love. 'You are people of merit, we are low Niṣādas; we got your sight by Rāma's grace.

Your sight is utterly hard for us to get, like the stream of the Gaṅgā in a desert. Rāma is merciful and kind to the Niṣāda; his household and subjects should be like their king.
