Chapter 235 · Rāma's forest, a well-governed kingdom · Verses 1–

Bharata takes the servant's words as true and comes close to the hermitage. He sees the company of forest and hill, and is glad like a hungry man who has found good grain. As people troubled by floods and drought, fear and the three kinds of pain, and plague go to a land with a good king and become happy, so Bharata feels. Rāma's dwelling in the forest shines like a kingdom, with happy people under a good ruler. The minister is detachment and the king is discrimination; the lovely forest is the pure country. Restraint and rules are the warriors, the hill is the capital, and peace and good sense are the fair queens. Every limb of the state is complete, the king is good, and his mind is eager and rests on Rāma's feet. Having conquered King Delusion and his army, King Discrimination rules his city without a thorn, in peace, wealth and good times.
