Lakṣmaṇa says that worldly men, on getting power, become fools and show it through delusion. Bharata, he says, is known to the world for his goodness and love of the Lord's feet, yet today, having got the kingdom, he has set out breaking the limits of duty. He thinks Bharata saw the bad time, knew Rāma was alone in the forest, made an evil plan and brought his people to rule without a thorn in his side. If there were no deceit in his heart, who would care for chariots, horses and elephants? No one can blame Bharata, since the world goes mad on getting kingship. The Moon went to his teacher's wife, Nahuṣa climbed the brāhmaṇs' palanquin, and Vena turned against the world and the Veda.

Worldly men, on getting power, become fools and show it through their delusion. Bharata is devoted to policy, good and wise, and his love for the Lord's feet is known to the whole world.

Yet even he, having got Rāma's seat today, has set out wiping out the limits of duty. Crooked and wicked, he watched for the bad time, knowing Rāma was alone in the forest.

He made an evil plan, mustered his company, and has come to rule without a thorn. Devising crores of crookedness, the two brothers have come gathering an army.

If there were no deceit and evil play in his heart, who would be pleased with chariots, horses and lines of elephants? Who can blame Bharata, when the world goes mad on getting a kingdom?
