Chapter 210 · The sage's praise; Bharata folds his hands · Verses 1–

Bharadvāja says Bharata has made his fame a matchless moon, in which Rāma's love lives as the deer-mark. There is no need to grieve; do not fear like a poor man who has found the philosopher's stone. The sage speaks truth: hermits who live in the forest, detached, find the sight of Lakṣmaṇa, Rāma and Sītā the sweet fruit of all their practice, and the sight of Bharata is the fruit of that fruit, together with Prayāga. Blessed are you, Bharata; your fame has conquered the world. Then he is lost in love. The assembly rejoices, and the gods rain flowers. Hearing 'blessed, blessed' from the sky and from Prayāga, Bharata is overcome with love. With his body thrilled, Rāma and Sītā in his heart and tears in his lotus eyes, he bows to the circle of sages and speaks in a choking voice.

You have made your fame a matchless moon, in which Rāma's love lives as the deer-mark. Dear one, why grieve at heart? You fear like a poor man who has found the philosopher's stone.

Verse 2

Listen, Bharata, we do not tell lies. We live in the forest as detached ascetics. The sweet fruit of all our practices is that we have seen Lakṣmaṇa, Rāma and Sītā.

Verse 3

The fruit of that fruit is the sight of you, along with Prayāga; it is our good fortune. 'Blessed are you, Bharata; your fame has conquered the world.' Saying this, he was lost in love again.

Verse 4

Hearing the sage's words the assembly rejoiced. The good praised him and the gods rained flowers. The cry of 'blessed, blessed' rose from the sky and from Prayāga, and hearing it, Bharata was lost in love.

His body thrilled, Rāma and Sītā in his heart and tears in his lotus eyes, Bharata bowed to the circle of sages and spoke in a voice choked with feeling.
