Guha leads the way and the queens follow in palanquins. Bharata calls his younger brother to go with them, and the teacher goes with the brāhmins. Bharata himself bows to the Gaṅgā, remembers Sītā, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, and goes on foot, with horses led beside him. His servants beg him again and again to ride, but he says that because Rāma went on foot, it would be wrong for him to ride; a servant's duty is hard. Seeing him and hearing his gentle words, all the servants melt with sorrow. In the third watch of the day he enters Prayāga, saying 'Rāma, Sītā' over and over.
