Chapter 155·The king's last words·Verses 1–
The king takes heart, sits up and asks Sumantra again where merciful Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and his dear daughter-in-law Videhā are. He laments in many ways, and the night does not pass; it is as long as an age. He remembers the curse of the blind ascetic and tells Kausalyā the whole story. Telling it, he grows distressed. He says that life without Rāma is not worth hoping for, and asks what he will do with a body that did not keep his vow of love. He calls out to Rāma, Jānakī and Lakṣmaṇa, himself the cātaka-bird of the rain-cloud of his father's love. In the closing dohā, saying Rāma over and over, he gives up his body in parting from Raghuvara and goes to the world of the gods.
