Rāma loves only love, and whoever can know it should know. He pleases the hill-people with soft words, and they bow and go home speaking of his goodness. So Rāma and Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa live in the forest, giving joy to gods and sages. From the time Rāma settled there, the forest became full of blessing. Trees flower and fruit in many ways and are wrapped in lovely creepers like canopies. They are beautiful like wishing-trees, as if the gods had left their own garden and come. Bees hum in lovely rows, and a cool, scented, gentle wind blows. Peacocks, cuckoos, parrots, cātakas, cakravākas and cakoras fill the air with many songs that please the ear and steal the heart.
