Chapter 125·Rāma tells Vālmīki his story·Verses 1–
Rāma bowed full length to the sage, who gave a blessing. Seeing Rāma's beauty, the sage's eyes were cooled, and he honoured him and brought him into the hermitage. The best of sages gave the dear guests sweet roots and fruit, and after Sītā, Saumitri and Rāma had eaten, he showed them lovely huts. Vālmīki was very glad, seeing the image of all good. Then Raghurāī folded his lotus hands and spoke words that were a joy to the ear: you see past, present and future, O lord of sages; the world is like a jujube in your hand. Saying so, the Lord told the whole tale, how the queen had sent him to the forest. The dohā: my father's word, my mother's good, brother Bharata so king-like; and Lord, to have your sight is all the work of my merit.
