Chapter 126·Rāma asks where to live·Verses 1–
Rāma said: having seen your feet, O king of sages, all my merit has borne fruit. Now tell me where I can stay, where no sage will be troubled. The king through whom sages and ascetics suffer burns without fire; the pleasing of brahmans is the root of good, and the anger of brahmans burns a million families. Knowing this, tell me the place where I can go with Sītā and Saumitri, and there build a lovely hut of leaves and grass, and stay a while, O kind one. Hearing Raghubar's simple, plain speech, the wise sage said, Well said, well said. Why should you not speak so, banner of the Raghus, protector of the bridge of the Vedas? The chhand: you guard the bridge of the Vedas, Rāma; you are the lord of the world and Jānakī is your Maya; she who creates, keeps and destroys the world at a sign from you, the Lord of mercy; and Lakṣmaṇa is the thousand-headed serpent-king, who holds up the earth. For the gods' work you have taken a king's body and set out to crush the army of wicked demons. The soraṭhā: your own form, Rāma, is beyond words and beyond the mind, unknown, beyond speech, endless; the Vedas always say 'not this, not this'.

And Lakṣmaṇa is the thousand-headed king of serpents, who holds the earth, lord of all that moves and does not. For the gods' work you have taken a king's body, and set out to crush the host of wicked demons.
