Rāma tells Sītā, gentle and faithful, that he will now act a lovely play as a man, and asks her to live in the fire until he has destroyed the demons. When he has told her all, she enters the fire holding the Lord's feet in her heart. She leaves her own shadow there, of the same nature and form. Not even Lakṣmaṇa knew the secret of what the Lord had done. Rāvaṇa goes to Mārīca and bows his head, a low man with only his own aim. The bow of the low is painful, like a goad, a bow, a snake or a cat. The flattery of the wicked brings fear, like flowers out of season. Mārīca worships him and asks why he has come alone, so troubled.राम ने सीता से कहा कि प्रिये, तुम सुन्दर व्रत वाली और सुशील हो, मैं कुछ मनोहर नर-लीला करूँगा। जब तक मैं राक्षसों का नाश करूँ, तुम अग्नि में निवास करो। राम के कहते ही सीता प्रभु के चरण हृदय में रखकर अग्नि में समा गईं। उन्होंने अपनी प्रतिछाया वहाँ रख दी, वैसे ही शील और रूप वाली, वैसी ही विनीत। भगवान ने जो चरित रचा उसका मर्म लक्ष्मण ने भी नहीं जाना। रावण वहाँ गया जहाँ मारीच था। स्वार्थ में लगे नीच ने सिर नवाया। नीच का झुकना बहुत दुःखदायी होता है, जैसे अंकुश, धनुष, साँप और बिल्ली का झुकना। दुष्ट की मीठी बात भय देने वाली होती है, जैसे असमय के फूल। मारीच ने उसकी पूजा की और आदर से पूछा कि किस कारण तुम अकेले आए हो, मन बहुत उदास है।

जैसे ही राम ने सब समझाकर कहा, सीता प्रभु के चरण हृदय में धरकर अग्नि में समा गईं। वहाँ उन्होंने अपनी प्रतिछाया रख दी, वैसे ही शील और रूप वाली, वैसी ही विनम्र।
As soon as Rāma had told her all, she held the Lord's feet in her heart and entered the fire. She left her own reflection there, of the same nature and form, as modest as herself.
