Tantric Prayogs at the Chaukhat for the Kul Pitr, the Kuldevi and a House under Abhichaar

The speaker's three chaukhat prayogs — a krishna paksha seva for rushta kul pitr, a shukla paksha seva with lamps and dhuni for the kuldevi and kul shakti, and Ardra-nakshatra Shiva water plus daily nirmalya for a house troubled by abhichaar — with who may do them and why a house without a chaukhat has no substitute.

Why prayogs at the chaukhat work: Narasimha's seat and the kula's powers

The kul pitr and raksha shaktis stand at the dehri; godhuli bela sharpens the prayog

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 00:03–01:14

The speaker says the threshold of the main door — the dehri or chaukhat — is held to be the place and asana of Bhagavan Narasimha, and that the kul pitr and the kula's protective powers are always present there. At godhuli bela, the twilight between day and night which is Narasimha's own time, his tattva is certainly present at that spot, so any prayog done there at that hour gives a very special effect. Through the chaukhat, he says, the protection of the house and the satisfaction of the kul devatas and kul pitr can certainly be achieved.

02

Can chaukhat prayogs be done in a house that has no chaukhat?

No chaukhat, no prayog — fit one, even in a rented house

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 01:15–01:41 · Also a question

No — the speaker says flatly that those whose house has no dehri or chaukhat cannot do these prayogs and there is no alternative; doing them "without a chaukhat" brings no benefit at all. His answer is to get a chaukhat fitted: in one's own house certainly, and in a rented house too, since one is paying for it — if one is not about to leave that house, fitting a chaukhat there carries no dosha.

03

When the kul pitr chaukhat prayog is called for

Displeased pitr, pitr dosha or shrap in the kundali, upari shaktis and vayavya baadha

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 01:42–02:14

The speaker says the first prayog is for when it has become clear that the kul pitr of the house are displeased and unsatisfied with you, or that pitr dosha or a shrap is somehow present in your kundali or your life. It is the first prayog especially for those troubled by upari shaktis or vayavya baadha, and above all if pitr dosha is present. How and how fast pitr dosha attaches, he says, has been explained in earlier talks — the ill effect seems to come very quickly, but there are many reasons behind it.

04

Daily minimum seva of the chaukhat by the kula vadhu

Wash, scent, dhoop and deep every day in every house with a chaukhat

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 02:15–02:27

As a general rule, the speaker says, in every house that has a chaukhat the kula vadhu should bathe and wash that chaukhat every day, make it fragrant, and show dhoop and a lamp there. This much, he says, must certainly happen in every house — quite apart from any special prayog.

05

Who may perform the kul pitr chaukhat prayog

Any man or married woman of the house; never the unmarried daughter

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 02:28–02:57

The speaker says the kul pitr prayog has a morning and an evening part. The morning part may be done by any man of the house or by any kula vadhu — the sons, the daughter-in-law, whichever married women are there. But the unmarried daughter of the house must not do this prayog; he asks that this be kept in mind.

06

Morning chaukhat seva for the kul pitr

Bath, karma-sakshi lamp, washing, ittar, kusha seats, two ghee lamps within an hour of sunrise

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 02:58–04:22

The speaker says the morning prayog is done after one's own bath (sweeping and mopping may come first, but the bath must precede the prayog), and preferably before the daily puja: prepare the puja place fully but do not sit down for puja — only light the karma-sakshi lamp there, then come to the chaukhat. Wash the chaukhat well top and bottom, apply chandan ittar (rose water and agaru if allergic), wipe it with a good cloth, place two small kusha seats of two blades each on either side, set a one-wick ghee lamp of clay or brass on each, and light them saying: may the kul pitr of our house be pleased, show grace, protect our house, and forgive whatever known or unknown dosha or offence we have committed. It is to be done within one hour of sunrise.

07

Precaution: women must not give the kul pitr argha from a copper vessel

Brass, steel or a leaf dona for women; copper only for men

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 04:23–04:43

For the argha to the kul pitr at the chaukhat, the speaker says, any vessel may be taken except a copper one in the case of women: women will not give it from a copper vessel, men may. A woman may use brass, or even a steel vessel without any dosha; otherwise the small leaf-made cup, a dona, may also be used.

08

Argha to the kul pitr at the chaukhat

Tal-mishri water with black til on both sides; "kul pitribhyo namah" without pranav

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 04:44–05:22

The speaker says to mix tal mishri in water to make sweet water, add five to ten grains or a pinch of black til, and give argha with it on both sides of the chaukhat, where the lamps stand, for the kul pitr. There is no special mantra — it is a bhava-led vidhan that gives its effect through feeling — but if one wishes, one may say "kul pitribhyo namah" while giving the argha, without adding pranav or anything else to it.

09

Arghya to Surya after the kul pitr argha

Plain water with Surya mantras, twelve names, Gayatri if entitled, or one's sandhya vidhi

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 05:23–05:44

After the kul pitr argha, the speaker says, give arghya to Bhagavan Surya Narayana with plain water — nothing mixed into it — while doing japa of Surya's mantras, or his namavali of twelve names, or the Gayatri if one holds the adhikar for it. Those who perform sandhya upasana and have their own sandhya vidhi give him the arghya according to that sandhya.

10

On which days should arghya not be given to Tulsi?

Never on Ekadashi or Sunday; Tuesday and Dwadashi per one's own tradition

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 05:45–06:11 · Also a question

The speaker says arghya is given to Bhagavati Tulsi after the Surya arghya each morning, but not on Ekadashi and not on Sunday. If one's own tradition also omits Tuesday, or has no vidhan of giving it on Dwadashi, follow that; look at it according to one's own custom. On all the remaining days it is to be given.

11

Evening chaukhat seva for the kul pitr

Scented white cloth, white chandan under yellow, atta chaumukh lamps of mustard oil on kusha

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 06:12–07:10

In the evening, the speaker says, either wash the chaukhat again or soak a clean white cloth in rose water or ittar and make the whole chaukhat fragrant with it. Then at both corners apply chandan — first white chandan below, then yellow chandan on it (chandan is applied in the morning too). Make very small chaumukh lamps of wheat flour, lay kusha seats of two blades on each side as in the morning, set one atta lamp on each side, fill them with mustard oil and light them for the kul pitr, saying: be pleased with us and forgive whatever offence we have committed.

12

Duration of the kul pitr chaukhat prayog: one krishna paksha

At least one paksha, Pratipada to Amavasya

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 07:11–07:15

The speaker says the kul pitr chaukhat prayog is to be done for one paksha at the least: in the krishna paksha, from Pratipada up to and including Amavasya. He later adds that it runs fifteen days, alongside the fifteen-day kuldevi prayog that follows in the shukla paksha up to Purnima; one may do both or only one.

13

Feeding a creature before eating during the kul pitr prayog

Cow, dog, crow, ants or a person — even one biscuit or roti — before food enters one's own mouth

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 07:16–07:41

Every day of the prayog, the speaker says, once the chaukhat lamps are lit, arghya has been given to Surya and one's own daily puja is done, feed a cow, a dog, a crow, ants, some human being, or any of these five — as much as one's capacity and wish allow, even a single biscuit or a single roti — and only then let food enter one's own mouth.

14

Gita chapter 7 with kusha water for the kul pitr

Midday or morning recitation, water sprinkled on the house and chaukhat

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 07:42–08:04

If one gets time at midday during the kul pitr prayog, the speaker says, recite the seventh chapter of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita — in Hindi is fine — with a lota of water in front into which kusha has been put, and be sure to sprinkle that water in the house and on the chaukhat. This may be done at midday or in the morning as part of one's own puja-paath. Together with the chaukhat seva, he says, it becomes a most divine prayog for the pleasure and peace of the kul pitr and for release from their wrath.

15

Does the chaukhat prayog remove pitr dosha permanently?

Temporary pacification only; gati needs Narayana Bali, Tripindi or Bhagwat

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 08:05–08:38 · Also a question

No — the speaker stresses that this is temporary, not a permanent remedy. Even if the pitr's affliction is pressing on you at full force, they will at once become calm, their wrath will subside and they will stop troubling you in dreams or in daily life. But the complete solution, he says, is that once they are fully appeased, one should get Narayana Bali, Tripindi and the like, and a Bhagwat, done for their gati so they are fully sent onward — they are not to be kept held back. When Narayana Bali is done, he says, will be covered separately.

16

When the kuldevi chaukhat prayog is done and who may do it

Displeased or turned kul shakti; shukla paksha Pratipada to Purnima or Navratri; kuldevi may be unknown

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 08:39–09:40

The second case, the speaker says, is when one finds that along with the kul pitr the kula's shaktis are also displeased, or that one's kul shakti has been turned against one — tantra is a subtle matter with much manipulation, and one must identify which case is one's own. Anyone whose kul shakti is displeased may do this, and so may someone who does not know their kuldevi but is doing some sadhana. The kuldevi and kul shakti are certainly pleased by chaukhat seva, since the protective powers reside there. It is done in the shukla paksha from Pratipada to Purnima, or in a festival period such as Navratri.

17

Preparing the chaukhat for the kuldevi: wiping and chandan-roli tilaks

Whole chaukhat top and bottom; trikut versus four-sided; yellow and white chandan and roli at every end

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 09:41–10:18

For the kuldevi prayog, the speaker says, wash the whole chaukhat well or wipe it with an ittar-scented cloth, top and bottom. A trikut chaukhat has a piece above and pieces on either side but none below — that is no problem; where there is a chaukhat on all four sides, wipe it on all four — below, above, left and right. Then tilak it above, below, at both ends and on every side with yellow chandan, white chandan and roli.

18

Sindoor-in-chameli-oil tilaks on the chaukhat for the kuldevi

Five bakra-sindoor tilaks above, five yellow-chandan tilaks below; Durga if the kuldevi is unknown

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 10:19–10:48

After the chandan and roli, the speaker says, take the orange sindoor — the "bakra sindoor" used in villages and at weddings, the same one offered on Hanuman ji — and mix it into chameli (jasmine) oil. Remembering one's kuldevi, or Bhagavati Durga if one does not know the kuldevi's name, apply five tilaks of it on the upper chaukhat. On the lower chaukhat apply five tilaks of yellow chandan.

19

Is it a dosha to step on the chaukhat?

A very great dosha — everyone in the house must be told again and again

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 10:49–11:08 · Also a question

Yes — the speaker says one must make it clear to everyone in the house that no one is to come in or go out placing a foot on the chaukhat. A foot must not be placed on the chaukhat: a dosha attaches, a very great dosha. This is to be explained to everyone in the house again and again; do not make this mistake.

20

Right-hand mustard-oil chaumukh for the kuldevi at the chaukhat

Brass reused or clay renewed daily; on flowers or an urad heap; five cloves and one cardamom

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 11:09–12:05

Once the chaukhat is adorned, the speaker says, take a small four-faced lamp — a brass one may be used every day; a clay one must be new each day. On the side that is to your right as you step out of the house, light one mustard-oil chaumukh, set on flowers or on a heap of whole urad. Only one lamp goes there, and five cloves and one cardamom must be placed in it.

21

Left-hand ghee lamp on tricolour rice for the kuldevi at the chaukhat

Two cardamoms, kapoor, two cloves; whole rice in two or three colours, never black or blue, food-coloured for the birds

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 12:06–12:39

On your left as you step out, the speaker says, place a one-wick ghee lamp with two cardamoms, kapoor and two cloves in it, set on a heap of flowers or on coloured rice. The rice must not be of a single colour — yellow, red, white, two or three colours, any colour except black; black and blue must not be there. Mix red, yellow and white rice, whole grains and not broken, dyed with food colour so that the birds can eat the grains later. Place the lamp on top and light it.

22

Rice from under the kuldevi lamp: kheer on Purnima

Collect the grains daily, keep a little after fifteen days, the rest to birds

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 12:40–12:59

The speaker says that each time the lamp has burnt out fully, keep collecting the rice grains in one place and the urad grains in another. After fifteen days keep back a little of the rice; the rest may be thrown to birds. On Purnima, when the pujan is done, mix the saved rice with more rice at midday and make kheer.

23

Urad from under the kuldevi chaumukh: red-cloth raksha and bhaat for animals

Saved urad tied above the chaukhat; the rest cooked with rice and a little ghee, fed outside or left at a crossroads

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 13:00–13:34

The urad grains kept back a little at a time, the speaker says, are to be wrapped in a red cloth, tied, and bound above the main chaukhat — or somewhere on the inner side — for protection. The remaining urad is cooked with rice into urad-rice bhaat; add just a little ghee, not much, and feed it to any animal outside the house, or place it at a crossroads. He calls the whole thing a most divine prayog.

24

Cow-dung dhuni for the kuldevi with 21 ahutis of two mantras

No havan fire, no copper or iron kund; guggul alone for the kuldevi, guggul with cardamom and ghee for Jayanti Mangala Kali

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 13:35–14:35

The second part of the kuldevi prayog, the speaker says, is done at the puja place in a large clay vessel or a havan kund that is not copper or iron. Havan fire is not invoked: ordinary cow-dung cakes are lit with ghee or kapoor, and 21 ahutis each are given with two mantras — for the kuldevi and with the first mantra of the Argala Stotra, "Jayanti Mangala Kali". One may first offer ahutis for guru and Ganapati. The kuldevi ahutis use guggul only, with nothing else added; the Jayanti Mangala ahutis use guggul with the seeds of four or five split cardamoms and a little ghee. If one does not say svaha it is no problem, since this is a dhuni.

25

Carrying the kuldevi dhuni smoke through the house to the chaukhat

Set down beside the ghee lamp on the coloured rice; morning and evening, or once if that is all one can

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 14:36–15:08

The whole smoke that rises from the dhuni, the speaker says, is to be shown through the entire house — the dhuni itself is lit at the puja place — and then the vessel is brought to the chaukhat and set down on the side where the kuldevi's ghee lamp stands on the heap of coloured rice. This is done in the morning and repeated in the evening; if for some reason one can manage only one time, that is no problem.

26

Ardra-nakshatra Shiva abhishek water on the chaukhat for a house under abhichaar

An old Shiva temple, Gangajal abhishek in either paksha, water from beside the arghi used daily

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 15:09–15:52

The third prayog, the speaker says, is for a house with severe abhichaar trouble — something enters at night, presses the throat, creates havoc, and no one can sleep. Find an old Shiva temple, at least 12 years old and ideally 50 to 100 years old. Whenever Ardra nakshatra falls, in either paksha, go there with pure Gangajal, do abhishek of Bhagavan Shiva, and take water from beside the arghi. Sprinkle that water through the whole house, and keep it so that every day, after scenting the chaukhat as before, the same water is applied over the entire chaukhat — top, bottom and all sides.

27

Daily temple nirmalya hung above the chaukhat against abhichaar

The morning's first nirmalya from an old Bhairav, Hanuman, Kali, Durga or Yogini temple, for 108 days to a year

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 15:53–16:29

Along with the Shiva water, the speaker says, bring every day the nirmalya from that same temple or from any very old temple — especially of Bhairav ji, Hanuman ji, Bhagavati Kali, Durga ji, or a temple connected with the Yoginis. It should be the morning's first nirmalya: what is left after the night's shringar and found there in the morning. Hang it on the upper side of the main-door chaukhat every day; next morning bring fresh nirmalya, immerse the old one and put up the new. Continue this for at least 108 days, six months, a year — more than half the tantra running over the house, he says, stops by this alone.

28

Why does nirmalya above the chaukhat block tantric powers?

Pushpadanta the Gandharva-raj crippled by crossing nirmalya; above, not below, because everyone would step over it

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 16:30–17:13 · Also a question

The speaker recalls that Pushpadanta — the Gandharva Chitraratha, the Gandharva-raj who composed the Shiva Mahimna Stotra — had his powers crippled merely by transgressing nirmalya; if that happened to him, ordinary bhoot, pret and pishach are nothing. So the powers are stopped at the upper part of the chaukhat — the nirmalya is not hung below, because everyone would step over it there — and from beneath it no power can enter. How much effect it gives depends on other things: if someone inside the house is doing it, or the thing already gets in, the matter is different; but even then the powers will be blocked, the intent checked, and the house will largely come under protection.

29

Chaukhat seva as nitya krama, not a one-off prayog

The more Narasimha's place is served, the safer the house and the calmer the mind

· Reviewed Sep 14, 2026 · 17:14–17:38

The speaker closes by urging that the seva and puja of the chaukhat be done without fail, because Bhagavan Narasimha's place is there: the more he is served, the safer the house and the calmer one's mind — in houses where there is constant needless quarrelling and bickering, do this. It is not a prayog, he says, but a matter of nitya krama; through chaukhat seva many impurities and negative things in the house are removed.
