Case: a 41-day Navarna mantra sadhana copied from YouTube without diksha
Night japa, akhand jyot, 108 malas, calm completion
The speaker presents a true case from the Corona period: a man with no Diksha of any kind, who had long served Bhagavati, went through every Navarna Mantra video on a very popular channel, was motivated by the experiences reported there, and began a night-time sadhana. On red cloth and a red asan he sat from about 10:30 pm to 2:30 am trying to complete 108 malas; for 41 days he kept an Akhand Jyot, offered Naivedya to Bhagavati in a solitary room, then did the Chalisa, the Ashtottara Shatanama, Navarna japa and one mala for Ganpati, nothing else. The sadhana completed calmly with no fear, no Avesh and no visitation; he continued nine malas daily and had beautiful dream experiences, which the speaker calls the proper, positive response for any Sadhak. That was 2021.
A panchagavya bath and one mala of Panchakshari do not consecrate a mala
At least the Ishan mantra would have counted
The speaker says the Mala used in the Navarna case was an old red-chandan mala that, in his view, was not consecrated at all. The man had done no pratishtha and no vidhi of that kind on it; he had only bathed it in Panchagavya and panchamrita and, following the channel, done one mala of the Panchakshari Mantra with Pranav over it, which the channel said would consecrate it. The speaker says that absolutely cannot consecrate a mala; had the man at least done the Ishan mantra one could grant that something was done, but this was something else entirely.
Symptoms after a wrongly done Navarna sadhana: fear, avesh, dizziness and illness
A fear-removing mantra producing fear in its own hours
The speaker lists what followed in 2022 in the Navarna case: first a pull in the food pipe and an urge to vomit when sitting for japa, especially in the evening, with medical tests finding nothing; then constant anxiety and fear. The channel owner told him to repeat the sadhana over the nine days of Navratri, and after that came a constant sense of someone nearby, jolts on falling asleep, a feeling of falling followed by heavy dizziness and low blood pressure, a stomach and liver that weakened with no dietary cause, definite evening Avesh (heavy body and shoulders, urge to sway, teeth grinding, rising anger, then collapse), and intense fear in his old japa hours of 11:30 to 2:30 that someone stood by his head or at the window. The speaker points to the reversal: the mantra whose sadhana removes fear was itself producing fear.
A wrongly done intense sadhana touches the whole of life: job, children, wealth
A right mantra lifts from the floor to the sky
The speaker says that around March 2022 the man in the Navarna case lost his work-from-home job, probably because illness kept him from joining office; he does not put much weight on the man's own view that the mantra caused it. But since the sadhana ran with such intensity, he says, it was bound to affect life somewhere: when a mantra gives its right fruit it lifts a person from the floor to the sky however adverse the circumstances, and when a sadhana is done wrongly, difficulties come. He records what followed: in September 2022 the man's wife, carrying twins, lost one to miscarriage; in December 2022 a son was born with epilepsy, who recovered on medication by early 2023; a long-pending court case wholly in his favour was overturned at final judgement, causing heavy loss and forcing him to liquidate all his stock-market investments; his body was harmed, he was mentally disturbed, and quarrels broke out at home. Though in direct contact with the channel owner, no proper solution emerged.
Alongside all of this, the speaker says, around March 2022, when a good stretch of the man's sadhana had already been completed and the new financial year began, his job also went. Since it was work from home, some such reasons arose; probably he could not join the office because of his illness. The man himself gives many reasons that this must have happened because of the mantra, but the speaker will not place too much weight on that: the man's body was weak and some difficulty had arisen from sitting at home. Whatever the cause, the speaker says, because the sadhana had run with considerable intensity, it would certainly have an effect on life somewhere. When a mantra gives the right fruit, however adverse a person's circumstances, it carries him from the floor below to the sky above. And when you do a sadhana wrongly, difficulties come. He continues the timeline. In September 2022 the man's wife was pregnant with twins; one child died in a miscarriage and had to be removed. In December 2022 a son was born who suffered from epilepsy, for which medicine was given; by around the third or fourth month of 2023 the child recovered, one good thing, the speaker notes. Amid all this came financial problems. The man had had a substantial stock-market investment while in his job, and an old court case entirely in his favour with only the judgement remaining. At the final judgement something happened such that the judgement was completely overturned, he suffered a very large financial loss, and all his investments had to be withdrawn. The financial damage was severe. His body was being harmed, he was already mentally disturbed, and family matters were such that quarrels were breaking out at home. With all these problems he was in direct contact with the person whose channel he had followed, but no proper solution was emerging.
Can the Navarna mantra be chanted without diksha and without a yajnopavita?
Not everything is a matter of bhakti-bhavana
The speaker says the first fault in the Navarna case is that the man had received no Diksha whatsoever, and not everything, he says, is a matter of bhakti-bhavana. The second is that his Yajnopavita had never been done; he did not wear one at all. Without wearing the yajnopavita, he asks, how will you perform these mantras? Whether every person is an Adhikara-holder for Navarna Mantra japa, he notes, is something he has discussed many times before.
Should Om be added before the Navarna mantra and Namah after it?
The original Navarna carries neither; adding them alters the mantra
The speaker says the Navarna the man had been given carried Pranav in front and "namah" after "vichche", whereas in the original Navarna Mantra, as anyone in a Guru Parampara would know, neither exists. Some 90% of YouTube videos say Om must be added to balance the mantra's energy, but he says a tantric mantra has its own rule, which is exactly why a Guru is necessary; who should add pranav and who should not is a separate matter. Adding namah is the graver error: mantras are held to have gender, feminine, masculine and so on, and without knowing what namah does to a mantra's gati one has added it on one's own. Navarna, he says, is not a plaything; the man chanted this wrong mantra for many days and even did Purashcharana with it.
Navakshari nyasa on a mantra that has grown to twelve syllables
Gita Press viniyoga-nyasa no longer matches the altered mantra
Asked whether he did Viniyoga and Nyasa with the mantra, the man in the Navarna case sent the version published by Gita Press. The speaker says that with Om in front and namah behind, the mantra was no longer the nine-syllable navakshari Navarna Mantra but had become an eleven-syllable, in effect twelve-syllable, mantra, and yet he performed the nyasa of the navakshari on it, which was already an error.
Whether pranav goes with the Navarna mantra is decided only by the diksha guru
Different for each initiate, never a common rule
The speaker says the man in the Navarna case chanted with Pranav attached and was not an adhikari for that at all. Whether pranav is attached to the Navarna Mantra or not is a separate matter altogether: it applies only to those who are initiated (Diksha), and what their Guru instructs can differ from person to person. It is never a common rule, he says; always remember this.
Ganpati japa with pranav and no Bhairav pujan alongside Navarna
A Kaal Bhairav Ashtak once is not Bhairav pujan
The speaker says that the ordinary Ganpati sadhana the man did alongside the Navarna was also done with Pranav, so a mantra Dosha attached there too. Asked about Bhairava pujan, there had been none in particular: he would read the Kaal Bhairav Ashtak once and, when very pleased, the Shiv Chalisa on Mondays and Fridays. That, the speaker says, is no Bhairav pujan.
Navarna japa calls for bali and naivedya for the yoginis and Kshetrapal pujan
The "bumper" fault: the yoginis received no food
After all the other faults, the speaker says, came the "bumper" fault of the Navarna case: the man never once offered Bali, bhog or Naivedya. The Navarna Mantra is a tantric mantra, he says; with its japa the Yoginis come, and they received no bali, no naivedya, no food at all. Nor was Kshetrapal ever worshipped. Navarna has great glory and all its rules; perform it without fully knowing them, and everything that happened in this case will happen.
Which shakti a wrong japa stirred is a separate diagnosis; mool mantra without kavach brings trouble
Mantra faults versus the dosha that then attached
The speaker says he has discussed only the effect and ill-effect of the mantra in the Navarna case, that is, how it was chanted wrongly. Which shakti of the man's home was awakened by the wrong japa, what became Avesh-ed on his body, whether some shakti of the roads and ghats attached, whether a Kshetrapal Dosha or a dosha of Bhairav ji occurred, and what happened on account of which, is an entirely separate subject. He adds that many Sahasranamas and Kavach texts say that japa of the mool mantra without reciting the kavach brings such troubles, so that too is a related factor.
Take tantric mantras from a Shakta sadhak after diksha and upadesh
Success today, a dark future without adhikara
The speaker says this is why he tells everyone that tantric mantras like the Navarna Mantra should be taken from the right person, a proper Shakta Sadhak: take the knowledge, receive Diksha, receive the upadesh, get one's doubts resolved, and only then perform the anushthan. Today you may be succeeding in every way, he warns, but the future can turn dark. Stay aware, stay alert and do sadhana in the right manner. His purpose, he says, is not to lessen anyone's faith in the mantra or its deity but to remove confusion, so that no one performs a karma without Adhikara that harms them and their family; harm to even one sadhak of Sanatan is a loss to all.
