गदामाविध्य तरसा (gadāmāvidhya tarasā) — whirling his mace forcefullywhirling his mace forcefully·सञ्चिक्षेप हरं प्रति (sañcikṣepa haraṃ prati) — hurled it toward Harahurled it toward Hara·शम्भुना सापि सहसा (śambhunā sāpi sahasā) — that too, at once, by Śambhuthat too, at once, by Śambhu·भिन्ना भस्मत्वमागता (bhinnā bhasmatvamāgatā) — was shattered and reduced to asheswas shattered and reduced to ashes

त्याजितेभमहागर्वैः (tyājitebhamahāgarvaiḥ) — with roars that stripped great elephants of pridewith roars that stripped great elephants of pride·महानादैर्वृषेश्वरः (mahānādairvṛṣeśvaraḥ) — with great roars, the lord of the bullwith great roars, the lord of the bull·पूरयामास सहसा (pūrayāmāsa sahasā) — at once filledat once filled·खं गां वसुदिशस्तथा (khaṃ gāṃ vasudiśastathā) — the sky, the earth, and the quartersthe sky, the earth, and the quarters

महाकालः समुत्पत्य (mahākālaḥ samutpatya) — Mahākāla, leaping upMahākāla, leaping up·ताडयद् गां तथा नभः (tāḍayad gāṃ tathā nabhaḥ) — struck the earth and the skystruck the earth and the sky·कराभ्यां तन्निनादेन (karābhyāṃ tanninādena) — with both hands, by that resounding blowwith both hands, by that resounding blow·क्षिप्ता आसन्पुरा रवाः (kṣiptā āsanpurā ravāḥ) — the former sounds were driven awaythe former sounds were driven away

अट्टाट्टहासमशिवं (aṭṭāṭṭahāsamaśivaṃ) — a booming, inauspicious laughtera booming, inauspicious laughter·क्षेत्रपालश्चकार ह (kṣetrapālaścakāra ha) — the Kṣetrapāla let outthe Kṣetrapāla let out·भैरवोऽपि महानादं (bhairavo'pi mahānādaṃ) — Bhairava too, a great roarBhairava too, a great roar·स चकार महाहवे (sa cakāra mahāhave) — he made in that great battlehe made in that great battle

महाकोलाहलो जातो (mahākolāhalo jāto) — a great uproar arosea great uproar arose·रणमध्ये भयङ्करः (raṇamadhye bhayaṅkaraḥ) — terrifying, in the midst of the battleterrifying, in the midst of the battle·वीरशब्दो बभूवाथ (vīraśabdo babhūvātha) — and a heroic clamour aroseand a heroic clamour arose·गणमध्ये समन्ततः (gaṇamadhye samantataḥ) — among the gaṇas, on every sideamong the gaṇas, on every side

सन्त्रेसुर्दानवाः सर्वे (santresurdānavāḥ sarve) — all the dānavas trembledall the dānavas trembled·तैः शब्दैर्भयदैः खरैः (taiḥ śabdairbhayadaiḥ kharaiḥ) — at those harsh, terrifying soundsat those harsh, terrifying sounds·चुकोपातीव तच्छ्रुत्वा (cukopātīva tacchrutvā) — grew exceedingly furious, hearing thisgrew exceedingly furious, hearing this·दानवेन्द्रो महाबलः (dānavendro mahābalaḥ) — the mighty lord of the dānavasthe mighty lord of the dānavas

तिष्ठ तिष्ठेति दुष्टात्मन् (tiṣṭha tiṣṭheti duṣṭātman) — 'Stand, stand, O wicked one!''Stand, stand, O wicked one!'·व्याजहार यदा हरः (vyājahāra yadā haraḥ) — when Hara cried outwhen Hara cried out·देवैर्गणैश्च तैः शीघ्रम् (devairgaṇaiśca taiḥ śīghram) — by the gods and the gaṇas, at onceby the gods and the gaṇas, at once·उक्तं जय जयेति च (uktaṃ jaya jayeti ca) — was cried, 'Victory, victory!'was cried, 'Victory, victory!'

अथागत्य स दम्भस्य (athāgatya sa dambhasya) — then, having come, that of Dambhathen, having come, that of Dambha·तनयः सुप्रतापवान् (tanayaḥ supratāpavān) — the mighty sonthe mighty son·शक्तिं चिक्षेप रुद्राय (śaktiṃ cikṣepa rudrāya) — hurled a spear at Rudrahurled a spear at Rudra·ज्वालामालातिभीषणाम् (jvālāmālātibhīṣaṇām) — terrible with garlands of flameterrible with garlands of flame

वह्निकूटप्रभायान्ती (vahnikūṭaprabhāyāntī) — coming, blazing like a mass of firecoming, blazing like a mass of fire·क्षेत्रपालेन सत्वरम् (kṣetrapālena satvaram) — by the Kṣetrapāla, swiftlyby the Kṣetrapāla, swiftly·निरस्तागत्य साजौ (nirastāgatya sājau) — repelled as it came, in that battlerepelled as it came, in that battle·मुखोत्पन्नमहोल्कया (mukhotpannamaholkayā) — with a great meteor-flash sprung from his mouthwith a great meteor-flash sprung from his mouth

पुनः प्रववृते युद्धं (punaḥ pravavṛte yuddhaṃ) — again the battle broke outagain the battle broke out·शिवदानवयोर्महत् (śivadānavayormahat) — the great one, between Śiva and the dānavathe great one, between Śiva and the dānava·चकम्पे धरणी द्यौश्च (cakampe dharaṇī dyauśca) — the earth trembled, and the sky toothe earth trembled, and the sky too·सनगाब्धिजलाशया (sanagābdhijalāśayā) — along with the mountains, oceans and watersalong with the mountains, oceans and waters

दाम्भिमुक्तान् शरान् शम्भुः (dāmbhimuktān śarān śambhuḥ) — Śambhu, the arrows loosed by Dambha's sonŚambhu, the arrows loosed by Dambha's son·शरांस्तत्प्रहितान्स च (śarāṃstatprahitānsa ca) — and he, the arrows sent by that oneand he, the arrows sent by that one·सहस्रशः शरैरुग्रैः (sahasraśaḥ śarairugraiḥ) — with fierce arrows, by the thousandwith fierce arrows, by the thousand·चिच्छेद शतशस्तदा (ciccheda śataśastadā) — cut down, then, by the hundredcut down, then, by the hundred

ततः शम्भुस्त्रिशूलेन (tataḥ śambhustriśūlena) — then Śambhu, with his tridentthen Śambhu, with his trident·सङ्क्रुद्धस्तं जघान ह (saṅkruddhastaṃ jaghāna ha) — enraged, struck himenraged, struck him·तत्प्रहारमसह्याशु (tatprahāramasahyāśu) — unable to bear that blow, at onceunable to bear that blow, at once·कौ पपात स मूर्च्छितः (kau papāta sa mūrcchitaḥ) — he fell fainting upon the earthhe fell fainting upon the earth

एवं बहुगणा वीराः (evaṃ bahugaṇā vīrāḥ) — thus the many hosts of heroesthus the many hosts of heroes·तदा सन्नह्य कोपतः (tadā sannahya kopataḥ) — then arming themselves in angerthen arming themselves in anger·व्यनाशयन्बहून्दैत्यान् (vyanāśayanbahūndaityān) — destroyed many daityasdestroyed many daityas·असुरान् देवमर्दकान् (asurān devamardakān) — and asuras, the oppressors of the godsand asuras, the oppressors of the gods
