Sanatkumāra continues the tale: Mahādeva Śambhu, mounted on his chariot with all his hosts arrayed, stands ready to burn the whole of Tripura, city of the gods' enemies. Assuming the śīrṣa-sthānaka archer's stance, nocking the finest arrow, readying his bow in the wondrous pratyālīḍha posture, gripping it firm and fixing his gaze upon the target, he stands utterly motionless for a hundred thousand years — yet the cities will not enter his aim, for Gaṇeśa, unworshipped, stands at his toe ceaselessly obstructing the shot. A voice from the sky then warns Hara that so long as Vināyaka remains unhonoured, he cannot destroy the cities. Hearing this, the slayer of Andhaka summons Bhadrakālī and worships the elephant-faced god; once Vināyaka is pleased, Hara at last beholds the three cities in the sky, rightly aligned — a moment some, Sanatkumāra notes in an aside, attribute variously to the independent, supreme, all-worshipping-yet-unworshipped Maheśvara, whose deeds unfold, in the end, only through his own play. With Gaṇeśa duly honoured, the three cities swiftly come into perfect alignment as one, and tumultuous joy breaks out among the gods, siddhas and great sages, who cry out in victory, praising the eight-formed Lord. Brahmā and Viṣṇu, lords of the worlds, then declare that the time for the demons' destruction has arrived and, with the cities now united, urge Maheśvara to act before they separate again and to reduce Tripura to ashes. Śarva strings his bow, fixes the venerable Pāśupata weapon, and turns his mind to Tripura — yet for a moment, skilled as he is in the play of granting boons, the great god appears strangely indifferent, prompting the assembled immortals, led by Viṣṇu, to praise him further: Virūpākṣa alone, they declare, is capable of reducing the three cities to ash in an instant, and for the increase of their glory he should now loose the arrow. Thus praised, Maheśvara resolves to burn the three cities. In the auspicious muhūrta called Abhijit, he draws the wondrous bow, sounds a terrible, unbearable twang, proclaims his own name, addresses the great demons, and looses the blazing arrow — vast as ten million suns, of Viṣṇu's own nature, fire-barbed, the remover of all impurity — which burns the demons of the three cities of Tripura at once. The cities, consumed, fall together to the earth girdled by the four oceans and are reduced entirely to ashes; hundreds of demons are burnt by the fire lodged within that single arrow, crying out in anguish for having transgressed against the worship of Śiva. Tārakākṣa, though burning, together with his two brothers, remembers his lord Śaṅkara, the lover of his devotees, and, filled with supreme devotion even in his final moment, speaks to him in his heart: acknowledging that Bhava is pleased even in consuming him and his kinsmen, he asks when the Lord will burn him thus again, for by this very death they have attained that rare state unreached even by gods and demons, and he prays that their minds remain forever steeped in devotion to Śiva, birth after birth. Speaking thus, the demons are, by Śiva's own command, wondrously reduced to ashes; young and old alike among the dānavas are likewise consumed, along with women and men and every mount within the cities, as the whole burns like the world at the end of a cosmic age. Some women are burnt even as they are torn from husbands embraced about the neck; others are consumed asleep, unwary, or wearied by love's exertion; the half-burnt wander about in delusion and fainting, until nothing — moving or unmoving — remains unburnt by that terrible conflagration, save Maya, the demon architect, imperishable and untouched, for he was no enemy of the gods, was protected by Śambhu's own power, and, even in this hour of calamity, remained a true and sheltered devotee. Sanatkumāra reflects that the concurrence of causes leading to destruction is not the same for every being — some perish and some do not, by deeds done or undone — and so the good should always strive with care, for the world is diminished by blameworthy conduct, and no one should act so as to invite censure; may such union with the doomed dwellers of Tripura never recur, he says, should fate so allow it. And those demons who, even amid this ruin, had worshipped Rudra together with their kinsmen are said to attain, by the power of their devotion to Śiva's worship, the exalted Gāṇapatya state — thus ends the account of the burning of Tripura, the climactic destruction of the three cities by Śiva's single, all-consuming arrow.

Then the lord of the gaṇas [Gaṇeśa], standing at his toe, kept pricking it unceasingly; those cities did not come within the target-range of the trident-bearer.
NoteThe obstruction is described only as Gaṇeśa standing at Śiva's toe and continually pricking it — the text does not elaborate further on the mechanism; the following verses make clear this is because Gaṇeśa had not yet been worshipped before the shot.
ततोऽङ्गुष्ठे गणाध्यक्षः (tato'ṅguṣṭhe gaṇādhyakṣaḥ) — Then, at [Śiva's] toe, the lord of the gaṇas [Gaṇeśa],स तुदत्यनिशं स्थितः (sa tudatyaniśaṃ sthitaḥ) — stood ceaselessly pricking [it];न लक्ष्यं विविशुस्तानि (na lakṣyaṃ viviśustāni) — those [cities] did not enter the target,पुराण्यस्य त्रिशूलिनः (purāṇyasya triśūlinaḥ) — the cities of the trident-bearer.

Then Hara, bearer of bow and arrow, his hair matted like muñja-grass, three-eyed, heard from the sky a most beautiful voice.

bho bho na yāvadbhagavannarcito'sau vināyakaḥ | purāṇi jagadīśeśa sāmprataṃ na haniṣyati 6 ||
"Ho, ho! O Lord, as long as that Vināyaka has not been worshipped, O Lord of the universe, you shall not now be able to destroy the cities!"
NoteThe Sanskrit gives no name for the speaker of this warning — verse 5 says only that Hara "heard from the sky" the voice; it is left as an unattributed voice (ākāśavāṇī) rather than assigned to a named deity, so no speaker tag is given here.
भो भो न यावद्भगवन्न् (bho bho na yāvadbhagavan) — "Ho, ho! O Lord — not as long asअर्चितोऽसौ विनायकः (arcito'sau vināyakaḥ) — that Vināyaka has not been worshipped,पुराणि जगदीशेश (purāṇi jagadīśeśa) — [will] the cities, O Lord of the universe,साम्प्रतं न हनिष्यति (sāmprataṃ na haniṣyati) — now — you shall not be able to destroy [them]."

"O Maheśvara, do the work of the gods regarding those cities of Tripura, sons of Tāraka — their unity, too, has now come about."
तेषां तारकपुत्राणां (teṣāṃ tārakaputrāṇāṃ) — "Of those, the sons of Tāraka,त्रिपुराणां महेश्वर (tripurāṇāṃ maheśvara) — of Tripura, O Maheśvara —देवकार्यं कुरु विभो (devakāryaṃ kuru vibho) — do the work of the gods, O Lord;एकत्वमपि चागतम् (ekatvamapi cāgatam) — their oneness too has come about."
yāvanna yānti deveśa viprayogaṃ purāṇi vai | tāvadbāṇaṃ vimuñcasva tripuraṃ bhasmasātkuru 19 ||
"As long as the cities, O Lord of gods, have not yet gone into separation, release the arrow and reduce Tripura to ashes."
यावन्न यान्ति देवेश (yāvanna yānti deveśa) — "As long as, O Lord of gods, they do not go,विप्रयोगं पुराणि वै (viprayogaṃ purāṇi vai) — the cities, into separation —तावद्बाणं विमुञ्चस्व (tāvadbāṇaṃ vimuñcasva) — release the arrow then,त्रिपुरं भस्मसात्कुरु (tripuraṃ bhasmasātkuru) — and reduce Tripura to ashes."
atha sajyaṃ dhanuḥ kṛtvā śarvaḥ sandhāya taṃ śaram | pūjyaṃ pāśupatāstraṃ sa tripuraṃ samacintayat 20 ||
Then, having strung his bow, Śarva, having fixed that arrow — the venerable Pāśupata weapon — set his mind upon Tripura.
अथ सज्यं धनुः कृत्वा (atha sajyaṃ dhanuḥ kṛtvā) — Then, having strung the bow,शर्वः सन्धाय तं शरम् (śarvaḥ sandhāya taṃ śaram) — Śarva, having fixed that arrow —पूज्यं पाशुपतास्त्रं (pūjyaṃ pāśupatāstraṃ) — the venerable Pāśupata weapon —स त्रिपुरं समचिन्तयत् (sa tripuraṃ samacintayat) — set his mind upon Tripura.
atha devo mahādevo varalīlāviśāradaḥ | kenāpi kāraṇenātra sāvajñaṃ tadavaikṣata 21 ||
Then the god Mahādeva, skilled in the play of granting boons, for some reason regarded that act with seeming disdain.
अथ देवो महादेवो (atha devo mahādevo) — Then the god Mahādeva,वरलीलाविशारदः (varalīlāviśāradaḥ) — skilled in the play of granting boons,केनापि कारणेनात्र (kenāpi kāraṇenātra) — for some reason here,सावज्ञं तदवैक्षत (sāvajñaṃ tadavaikṣata) — regarded that [act] with seeming disdain.
puratrayaṃ virūpākṣaḥ kartuṃ tadbhasmasātkṣaṇāt | samarthaḥ parameśāno jānātu ca satāṃ gatiḥ 22 ||
"Virūpākṣa is able, in an instant, to reduce the three cities to ashes; let the Supreme Lord, the refuge of the good, know this."
पुरत्रयं विरूपाक्षः (puratrayaṃ virūpākṣaḥ) — "The three cities — Virūpākṣa,कर्तुं तद्भस्मसात्क्षणात् (kartuṃ tadbhasmasātkṣaṇāt) — to reduce them to ashes in an instant,समर्थः परमेशानो (samarthaḥ parameśāno) — is able — let the Supreme Lord,जानातु च सतां गतिः (jānātu ca satāṃ gatiḥ) — the refuge of the good, know [this]."
dagdhuṃ samartho deveśo vīkṣaṇena jagattrayam | asmadyaśo vivṛddhyarthaṃ śaraṃ moktumihārhasi 23 ||
"The Lord of gods is able to burn the three worlds with a mere glance; for the increase of our glory, you ought now to release the arrow."
दग्धुं समर्थो देवेशो (dagdhuṃ samartho deveśo) — "Able to burn — the Lord of gods —वीक्षणेन जगत्त्रयम् (vīkṣaṇena jagattrayam) — the three worlds, with a mere glance;अस्मद्यशो विवृद्ध्यर्थं (asmadyaśo vivṛddhyarthaṃ) — for the increase of our glory,शरं मोक्तुमिहार्हसि (śaraṃ moktumihārhasi) — you ought to release the arrow here."
iti stuto'maraiḥ sarvairviṣṇvādividhibhistadā | dagdhuṃ puratrayaṃ tadvai bāṇenaicchanmaheśvaraḥ 24 ||
Thus praised by all the immortals, headed by Viṣṇu, Maheśvara then resolved to burn the three cities with that arrow.
इति स्तुतोऽमरैः सर्वैर् (iti stuto'maraiḥ sarvair) — Thus praised by all the immortals,विष्ण्वादिविधिभिस्तदा (viṣṇvādividhibhistadā) — in the manner led by Viṣṇu and the rest, then —दग्धुं पुरत्रयं तद्वै (dagdhuṃ puratrayaṃ tadvai) — to burn the three cities indeed,बाणेनैच्छन्महेश्वरः (bāṇenaicchanmaheśvaraḥ) — Maheśvara resolved, with that arrow.
muhūrte'bhijidākhye tu vikṛṣya dhanuradbhutam | kṛtvā jyātalanirghoṣaṃ nādamatyantadussaham 25 ||
In the muhūrta called Abhijit, having drawn the wondrous bow, and having made with the bowstring's slap on his palm a twang utterly unbearable —
मुहूर्तेऽभिजिदाख्ये तु (muhūrte'bhijidākhye tu) — In the muhūrta called Abhijit,विकृष्य धनुरद्भुतम् (vikṛṣya dhanuradbhutam) — having drawn the wondrous bow,कृत्वा ज्यातलनिर्घोषं (kṛtvā jyātalanirghoṣaṃ) — and having made, with the bowstring on his palm,नादमत्यन्तदुस्सहम् (nādamatyantadussaham) — a twanging sound utterly unbearable.
ātmano nāma viśrāvya samābhāṣya mahāsurān | mārtaṇḍakoṭivapuṣaṃ kāṇḍamugro mumoca ha 26 ||
— having proclaimed his own name, and having addressed the great demons, the fierce one released the arrow whose form was as of ten million suns.
आत्मनो नाम विश्राव्य (ātmano nāma viśrāvya) — having proclaimed his own name,समाभाष्य महासुरान् (samābhāṣya mahāsurān) — and having addressed the great demons,मार्तण्डकोटिवपुषं (mārtaṇḍakoṭivapuṣaṃ) — the arrow whose form was as of ten million suns —काण्डमुग्रो मुमोच ह (kāṇḍamugro mumoca ha) — the fierce one released indeed.
dadāha tripurasthāṃstāndaityā~strīnvimalāpahaḥ | sa āśugo viṣṇumayo vahniśalyo mahājvalan 27 ||
That swift arrow — remover of impurity, of Viṣṇu's own nature, fire-barbed, greatly blazing — burnt those demons dwelling in the three cities of Tripura.
ददाह त्रिपुरस्थांस्तान् (dadāha tripurasthāṃstān) — It burnt those [demons]दैत्याँस्त्रीन्विमलापहः (daityā~strīnvimalāpahaḥ) — dwelling in Tripura — the three — the remover of impurity,स आशुगो विष्णुमयो (sa āśugo viṣṇumayo) — that swift arrow, of Viṣṇu's own nature,वह्निशल्यो महाज्वलन् (vahniśalyo mahājvalan) — fire-barbed, greatly blazing.
tataḥ purāṇi dagdhāni caturjaladhimekhalām | gatāni yugapadbhūmiṃ trīṇi dagdhāni bhasmaśaḥ 28 ||
Then the three cities, all burnt, fell together at once to the earth girdled by the four oceans, entirely reduced to ashes.
ततः पुराणि दग्धानि (tataḥ purāṇi dagdhāni) — Then the cities, burnt,चतुर्जलधिमेखलाम् (caturjaladhimekhalām) — to the earth girdled by the four oceans,गतानि युगपद्भूमिं (gatāni yugapadbhūmiṃ) — went at once, to the earth —त्रीणि दग्धानि भस्मशः (trīṇi dagdhāni bhasmaśaḥ) — the three cities, burnt, to ashes.
daityāstu śataśo dagdhāstasya bāṇasthavahninā | hāhākāraṃ prakurvantaśśivapūjāvyatikramāt 29 ||
The demons, by the hundreds, were burnt by the fire dwelling in that arrow, raising cries of woe on account of their transgression against the worship of Śiva.
दैत्यास्तु शतशो दग्धाः (daityāstu śataśo dagdhāḥ) — The demons, by the hundreds, were burntतस्य बाणस्थवह्निना (tasya bāṇasthavahninā) — by the fire dwelling in that arrow,हाहाकारं प्रकुर्वन्तः (hāhākāraṃ prakurvantaḥ) — raising cries of woe,शिवपूजाव्यतिक्रमात् (śivapūjāvyatikramāt) — on account of [their] transgression against Śiva's worship.
tārakākṣastu nirdagdho bhrātṛbhyāṃ sahito'bhavat | sasmāra svaprabhuṃ devaṃ śaṅkaraṃ bhaktavatsalam 30 ||
But Tārakākṣa, being burnt, together with his two brothers, remembered his own lord, the god Śaṅkara, who is affectionate to his devotees.
तारकाक्षस्तु निर्दग्धो (tārakākṣastu nirdagdho) — But Tārakākṣa, being burnt,भ्रातृभ्यां सहितोऽभवत् (bhrātṛbhyāṃ sahito'bhavat) — together with his two brothers,सस्मार स्वप्रभुं देवं (sasmāra svaprabhuṃ devaṃ) — remembered his own lord, the godशङ्करं भक्तवत्सलम् (śaṅkaraṃ bhaktavatsalam) — Śaṅkara, who is affectionate to his devotees.
bhaktyā paramayā yuktaḥ pralapan vividhā giraḥ | mahādevaṃ samudvīkṣya manasā tamuvāca saḥ 31 ||
Endowed with supreme devotion, uttering various words, having beheld Mahādeva, he spoke to Him in his mind.
भक्त्या परमया युक्तः (bhaktyā paramayā yuktaḥ) — Endowed with supreme devotion,प्रलपन् विविधा गिरः (pralapan vividhā giraḥ) — uttering various words,महादेवं समुद्वीक्ष्य (mahādevaṃ samudvīkṣya) — having beheld Mahādeva,मनसा तमुवाच सः (manasā tamuvāca saḥ) — he spoke to Him in his mind.
bhava jñāto'si tuṣṭo'si yadyasmān saha bandhubhiḥ | tena satyena bhūyo'pi kadā tvaṃ pradahiṣyasi 32 ||
[Tārakākṣa said:] "O Bhava, you are known to us, and you are pleased with us, in that you consume us together with our kinsmen; by that truth, tell us — when will you burn us again?"
भव ज्ञातोऽसि तुष्टोऽसि (bhava jñāto'si tuṣṭo'si) — "O Bhava, you are known [to us], you are pleased,यद्यस्मान् सह बन्धुभिः (yadyasmān saha bandhubhiḥ) — in that [you burn] us together with our kinsmen;तेन सत्येन भूयोऽपि (tena satyena bhūyo'pi) — by that truth, again also —कदा त्वं प्रदहिष्यसि (kadā tvaṃ pradahiṣyasi) — when will you burn [us]?"
durlabhaṃ labdhamasmābhiryadaprāpyaṃ surāsuraiḥ | tvadbhāvabhāvitā buddhirjāte jāte bhavatviti 33 ||
"We have obtained that rare thing unattainable even by gods and demons; may our minds, steeped in devotion to you, remain so in birth after birth!"
दुर्लभं लब्धमस्माभिर् (durlabhaṃ labdhamasmābhir) — "We have obtained that rare thingयदप्राप्यं सुरासुरैः (yadaprāpyaṃ surāsuraiḥ) — which is unattainable by gods and demons —त्वद्भावभाविता बुद्धिर् (tvadbhāvabhāvitā buddhir) — may [our] mind, steeped in devotion to you,जाते जाते भवत्विति (jāte jāte bhavatviti) — be so in birth after birth!" [thus they spoke]
ityevaṃ vibruvantaste dānavāstena vahninā | śivājñayādbhutaṃ dagdhā bhasmasādabhavanmune 34 ||
Speaking thus, those dānavas, by that fire and at Śiva's command, were, O sage, wondrously burnt and turned to ashes.
इत्येवं विब्रुवन्तस्ते (ityevaṃ vibruvantaste) — Thus speaking, those [demons]दानवास्तेन वह्निना (dānavāstena vahninā) — — the dānavas — by that fire,शिवाज्ञयाद्भुतं दग्धा (śivājñayādbhutaṃ dagdhā) — by Śiva's command, wondrously burnt,भस्मसादभवन्मुने (bhasmasādabhavanmune) — were turned to ashes, O sage.
anye'pi bālā vṛddhāśca dānavāstena vahninā | śivājñayā drutaṃ vyāsa nirdagdhā bhasmasātkṛtāḥ 35 ||
Other dānavas too, both young and old, O Vyāsa, were swiftly and utterly burnt by that fire at Śiva's command, and reduced to ashes.
अन्येऽपि बाला वृद्धाश्च (anye'pi bālā vṛddhāśca) — Other [demons] too, young and old,दानवास्तेन वह्निना (dānavāstena vahninā) — the dānavas, by that fire,शिवाज्ञया द्रुतं व्यास (śivājñayā drutaṃ vyāsa) — by Śiva's command, swiftly, O Vyāsa,निर्दग्धा भस्मसात्कृताः (nirdagdhā bhasmasātkṛtāḥ) — were utterly burnt, reduced to ashes.
striyo vā puruṣā vāpi vāhanāni ca tatra ye | sarve tenāgninā dagdhāḥ kalpānte tu jagadyathā 36 ||
Whether women or men, and whatever mounts were there — all were burnt by that fire, just as the world is consumed at the end of a cosmic age.
स्त्रियो वा पुरुषा वापि (striyo vā puruṣā vāpi) — Whether women or men,वाहनानि च तत्र ये (vāhanāni ca tatra ye) — and whatever mounts were there,सर्वे तेनाग्निना दग्धाः (sarve tenāgninā dagdhāḥ) — all were burnt by that fire,कल्पान्ते तु जगद्यथा (kalpānte tu jagadyathā) — just as the world at the end of a kalpa.
bhartṛnkaṇṭhagatānhitvā kāściddagdhā varastriyaḥ | kāścitsuptāḥ pramattāśca ratiśrāntāśca yoṣitaḥ 37 ||
Some fair women, torn even from husbands they held clasped about the neck, were burnt; some women were burnt asleep, or unwary, or wearied by love's exertion.
भर्तृन्कण्ठगतान्हित्वा (bhartṛnkaṇṭhagatānhitvā) — Torn from husbands clasped about the neck,काश्चिद्दग्धा वरस्त्रियः (kāściddagdhā varastriyaḥ) — some fair women were burnt;काश्चित्सुप्ताः प्रमत्ताश्च (kāścitsuptāḥ pramattāśca) — some [were burnt] asleep, or heedless,रतिश्रान्ताश्च योषितः (ratiśrāntāśca yoṣitaḥ) — and women wearied from love-play.
arddhadagdhā vibuddhāśca babhramurmohamūrcchitāḥ | tena nāsītsusūkṣmo'pi ghoratripuravahninā 38 ||
Half-burnt and awoken, they wandered about, fainting in confusion; not even the subtlest thing remained untouched by that terrible fire of Tripura.
अर्द्धदग्धा विबुद्धाश्च (arddhadagdhā vibuddhāśca) — Half-burnt, and awoken,बभ्रमुर्मोहमूर्च्छिताः (babhramurmohamūrcchitāḥ) — they wandered about, fainting in confusion;तेन नासीत्सुसूक्ष्मोऽपि (tena nāsītsusūkṣmo'pi) — by it, not even the subtlest thingघोरत्रिपुरवह्निना (ghoratripuravahninā) — [was spared] — by that terrible fire of Tripura.
avidagdho vinirmuktaḥ sthāvaro jaṅgamo'pi vā | varjayitvā mayaṃ daityaṃ viśvakarmāṇamavyayam 39 ||
Nothing, whether unmoving or moving, was left unburnt and untouched — save for the demon Maya, the imperishable architect.
अविदग्धो विनिर्मुक्तः (avidagdho vinirmuktaḥ) — Unburnt and left free —स्थावरो जङ्गमोऽपि वा (sthāvaro jaṅgamo'pi vā) — whether unmoving or moving —वर्जयित्वा मयं दैत्यं (varjayitvā mayaṃ daityaṃ) — [there was none], except for the demon Maya,विश्वकर्माणमव्ययम् (viśvakarmāṇamavyayam) — the imperishable architect.
aviruddhaṃ tu devānāṃ rakṣitaṃ śambhutejasā | vipatkāle'pi sadbhaktaṃ maheśaśaraṇāgatam 40 ||
For he was no enemy of the gods, was protected by Śambhu's own power, and, even in that time of calamity, remained a true devotee who had come for refuge to Maheśa.
अविरुद्धं तु देवानां (aviruddhaṃ tu devānāṃ) — Not opposed to the gods,रक्षितं शम्भुतेजसा (rakṣitaṃ śambhutejasā) — protected by Śambhu's own power,विपत्कालेऽपि सद्भक्तं (vipatkāle'pi sadbhaktaṃ) — a true devotee even in time of calamity,महेशशरणागतम् (maheśaśaraṇāgatam) — who had come for refuge to Maheśa.
sannipāto hi yeṣāṃ no vidyate nāśakārakaḥ | daityānāmanyasattvānāṃ bhāvābhāve kṛtākṛte 41 ||
For the concurrence [of causes] that brings destruction does not exist alike for demons and other beings — in their existence or non-existence, in deeds done or undone.
सन्निपातो हि येषां (sannipāto hi yeṣāṃ) — For, that concurrence [of cause]नो विद्यते नाशकारकः (no vidyate nāśakārakaḥ) — which brings destruction does not exist the same for all —दैत्यानामन्यसत्त्वानां (daityānāmanyasattvānāṃ) — for demons and other beings,भावाभावे कृताकृते (bhāvābhāve kṛtākṛte) — in existence and non-existence, in deed done and undone.
tasmādyatnaḥ susambhāvyaḥ sadbhiḥ kartavya eva hi | garhaṇātkṣīyate loko na tatkarma samācaret 42 ||
Therefore the good should always make well-considered effort; for the world is diminished by blameworthy conduct — one should not perform such a deed.
तस्माद्यत्नः सुसम्भाव्यः (tasmādyatnaḥ susambhāvyaḥ) — Therefore, effort that is well-consideredसद्भिः कर्तव्य एव हि (sadbhiḥ kartavya eva hi) — should indeed be made by the good;गर्हणात्क्षीयते लोको (garhaṇātkṣīyate loko) — the world is diminished through blame —न तत्कर्म समाचरेत् (na tatkarma samācaret) — one should not perform that [blameworthy] deed.
na saṃyogo yathā teṣāṃ bhūyāt tripuravāsinām | matametaddhi sarveṣāṃ daivādyadi yato bhavet 43 ||
That there should be no such association again with those dwellers of Tripura — this indeed is the opinion held by all, should it come about by fate.
न संयोगो यथा तेषां (na saṃyogo yathā teṣāṃ) — That there should be no [renewed] association with them,भूयात् त्रिपुरवासिनाम् (bhūyāt tripuravāsinām) — with those dwellers of Tripura —मतमेतद्धि सर्वेषां (matametaddhi sarveṣāṃ) — this indeed is the opinion of all,दैवाद्यदि यतो भवेत् (daivādyadi yato bhavet) — should it come about by fate.
ye pūjayantastatrāpi daityā rudraṃ sabāndhavāḥ | gāṇapatyaṃ yayuḥ sarve śivapūjāvidherbalāt 44 ||
