Chapter Twenty·Śiva's Going to Kailāsa·Verses 1–62
Brahmā tells Nārada how, after granting Kubera lordship of the treasures, Śiva resolved in his heart to go himself, in the form of Rudra born of his own heart, to dwell as Kubera's friend on Kailāsa. Rudra sounded his ḍamaru, and its sound, spreading through the three worlds, drew Viṣṇu, Brahmā and a vast host of gaṇeśvaras with their countless troops to that mountain. Śiva went there with them all; Kubera worshipped him and his followers with due honour, and Viśvakarman built dwellings on the mountain at Śiva's command. Amid great festivity — flowers raining from the sky, apsarases dancing and singing, all the gods anointing and praising him — Śiva enthroned himself, granted boons to all, and then dismissed Viṣṇu and Brahmā, and finally Kubera, to their own abodes, pledging his lasting friendship to each. He settled to dwell forever on Kailāsa with his gaṇas, sporting in its many regions and sometimes lost in meditation or teaching his gaṇas old tales, until, after some time unmarried, he obtained Satī, daughter of Dakṣa, as his wife, and lived happily with her. Brahmā closes by summing up this account of Rudra's incarnation, his coming to Kailāsa, his friendship with Kubera, and the fruit of hearing this tale — a chapter that also closes the Sṛṣṭi-khaṇḍa of the Rudra Saṃhitā.

The Lord of all, surrounded by twenty hundred [times a] thousand crore of crores, came there indeed for the going to Kailāsa.
Noteसर्वेशः ("the Lord of all") closes this roll-call of gaṇeśvaras — it names Rudra himself, arriving with the full assembled host, not a further distinct gaṇa-chief.
