A bodiless voice from the sky curses Dakṣa and warns his allies of the great sorrow to come, and the terrified Dakṣa flees for refuge to Viṣṇu.

Dakṣa then, trembling and utterly distraught at heart, went for refuge to Viṣṇu, his own lord, the husband of Indirā.

Overcome with fear and beside himself, having bowed low and praised him, he spoke to that god of gods, Viṣṇu, ever tender to his own people.
