शृणु नारद सुप्रीत्या (śṛṇu nārada suprītyā) — listen, O Nārada, with great affectionlisten, O Nārada, with great affection·मेनोत्पत्तिं विवेकतः (menotpattiṃ vivekataḥ) — to Menā's origin, discerninglyto Menā's origin, discerningly·मुनिभिः सह वक्ष्ये अहं (munibhiḥ saha vakṣye ahaṃ) — I shall tell, together with the sagesI shall tell, together with the sages·सुतवर्य महाबुध (sutavarya mahābudha) — O best of sages, O greatly wise oneO best of sages, O greatly wise one

अयोनिजाः स्वधायाः च (ayonijāḥ svadhāyāḥ ca) — not born from a womb, and of Svadhānot born from a womb, and of Svadhā·लोकतः तत्सुता मताः (lokataḥ tatsutā matāḥ) — held by the world to be her daughtersheld by the world to be her daughters·आसां प्रोच्य सुनामानि (āsāṃ procya sunāmāni) — uttering their good namesuttering their good names·सर्वान् कामान् जनो लभेत् (sarvān kāmān jano labhet) — a person obtains every desirea person obtains every desire

जगद्वन्द्याः सदा लोकमातरः (jagadvandyāḥ sadā lokamātaraḥ) — worshipped by the world, ever mothers of the worldsworshipped by the world, ever mothers of the worlds·परमोददाः (paramodadāḥ) — bestowers of supreme delightbestowers of supreme delight·योगिन्यः परमा ज्ञाननिधानाः (yoginyaḥ paramā jñānanidhānāḥ) — yoginīs, supreme, treasuries of knowledgeyoginīs, supreme, treasuries of knowledge·तास् त्रिलोकगाः (tās trilokagāḥ) — they, ranging through the three worldsthey, ranging through the three worlds

मोहिनी सर्वलोकानां (mohinī sarvalokānāṃ) — deluder of all the worldsdeluder of all the worlds·शिवमाया गरीयसी (śivamāyā garīyasī) — Śiva's māyā, exceedingly mightyŚiva's māyā, exceedingly mighty·तदधीनं जगत् सर्वं (tadadhīnaṃ jagat sarvaṃ) — the whole world subject to itthe whole world subject to it·शिवेच्छा सा प्रकीर्त्यते (śivecchā sā prakīrtyate) — it is proclaimed as Śiva's willit is proclaimed as Śiva's will

प्रारब्धं प्रोच्यते सा एव (prārabdhaṃ procyate sā eva) — that very thing is called prārabdhathat very thing is called prārabdha·तन्नामानि हि अनेकशः (tannāmāni hi anekaśaḥ) — its names are indeed manyits names are indeed many·शिवेच्छया भवति एव (śivecchayā bhavati eva) — it comes about only by Śiva's willit comes about only by Śiva's will·न अत्र कार्या विचारणा (na atra kāryā vicāraṇā) — no doubt need be entertained hereno doubt need be entertained here

भूत्वा तद्दशगाः ता वै (bhūtvā taddaśagāḥ tā vai) — come under that condition, they indeedcome under that condition, they indeed·न चक्रुः अपि तन्नतिम् (na cakruḥ api tannatim) — did not even bow to themdid not even bow to them·विस्मिताः सम्प्रदृश्य एव (vismitāḥ sampradṛśya eva) — astonished, simply beholdingastonished, simply beholding·संस्थिताः तत्र केवलम् (saṃsthitāḥ tatra kevalam) — remained seated there onlyremained seated there only

अभ्युत्थानं कृतं नो (abhyutthānaṃ kṛtaṃ no) — rising was not done for usrising was not done for us·यो नमस्कारः अपि गर्विताः (yo namaskāraḥ api garvitāḥ) — nor salutation either, O proud onesnor salutation either, O proud ones·मोहिता नरभावत्वात् (mohitā narabhāvatvāt) — deluded, on account of a human naturedeluded, on account of a human nature·स्वर्गाद् दूरा भवन्तु हि (svargād dūrā bhavantu hi) — be far removed from heaven indeedbe far removed from heaven indeed

नरस्त्रियः सम्भवन्तु (narastriyaḥ sambhavantu) — become the wives of menbecome the wives of men·तिस्रः अपि अज्ञानमोहिताः (tisraḥ api ajñānamohitāḥ) — all three, deluded by ignoranceall three, deluded by ignorance·स्वकर्मणः प्रभावेण (svakarmaṇaḥ prabhāveṇa) — by the power of your own actionby the power of your own action·लभध्वं फलम् ईदृशम् (labhadhvaṃ phalam īdṛśam) — obtain this kind of fruitobtain this kind of fruit

इति आकर्ण्य च साध्व्यः (iti ākarṇya ca sādhvyaḥ) — hearing this, the virtuous womenhearing this, the virtuous women·तास् तिस्रः अपि चकिता भृशम् (tās tisraḥ api cakitā bhṛśam) — those three, greatly frightenedthose three, greatly frightened·पतित्वा पादयोः तस्य (patitvā pādayoḥ tasya) — having fallen at his feethaving fallen at his feet·समूर्च्नतमस्तका (samūrcnatamastakā) — their heads bowed lowtheir heads bowed low

मुनिवर्य दयासिन्धो (munivarya dayāsindho) — O best of sages, ocean of compassionO best of sages, ocean of compassion·प्रसन्नो भव च अधुना (prasanno bhava ca adhunā) — be gracious nowbe gracious now·त्वत्प्रणामं वयं मूढाः (tvatpraṇāmaṃ vayaṃ mūḍhāḥ) — we, being foolish, your salutationwe, being foolish, your salutation·कुर्महे स्म न भावतः (kurmahe sma na bhāvataḥ) — did not offer, out of true feelingdid not offer, out of true feeling

प्राप्तं च तत्फलं विप्र (prāptaṃ ca tatphalaṃ vipra) — and that fruit received, O brāhmaṇaand that fruit received, O brāhmaṇa·न ते दोषो महामुने (na te doṣo mahāmune) — the fault is not yours, O great sagethe fault is not yours, O great sage·अनुग्रहं कुरुष्व अत्र (anugrahaṃ kuruṣva atra) — show grace in thisshow grace in this·लभेम स्वर्गतिं पुनः (labhema svargatiṃ punaḥ) — that we may obtain the way to heaven againthat we may obtain the way to heaven again

श्रुत्वा तद्वचनं तात (śrutvā tadvacanaṃ tāta) — hearing that speech, O sonhearing that speech, O son·प्रोवाच स मुनिः तदा (provāca sa muniḥ tadā) — that sage then spokethat sage then spoke·शापोद्धारं प्रसन्नात्मा (śāpoddhāraṃ prasannātmā) — of release from the curse, his mind graciousof release from the curse, his mind gracious·प्रेरितः शिवमायया (preritaḥ śivamāyayā) — impelled by Śiva's māyāimpelled by Śiva's māyā

पितॄणां तनयाः तिस्रः (pitṝṇāṃ tanayāḥ tisraḥ) — O three daughters of the pitṛsO three daughters of the pitṛs·शृणुत प्रीतमानसाः (śṛṇuta prītamānasāḥ) — listen with contented mindslisten with contented minds·वचनं मम शोकघ्नं (vacanaṃ mama śokaghnaṃ) — my word, destroyer of sorrowmy word, destroyer of sorrow·सुखदं सर्वदैव वः (sukhadaṃ sarvadaiva vaḥ) — ever a giver of joy to youever a giver of joy to you

विष्णोः अंशस्य शैलस्य (viṣṇoḥ aṃśasya śailasya) — of the mountain, Viṣṇu's portionof the mountain, Viṣṇu's portion·हिमाधारस्य कामिनी (himādhārasya kāminī) — the support of snow, [his] belovedthe support of snow, [his] beloved·ज्येष्ठा भवतु तत्कन्या (jyeṣṭhā bhavatu tatkanyā) — let the eldest become; her daughterlet the eldest become; her daughter·भविष्यति एव पार्वती (bhaviṣyati eva pārvatī) — will indeed be Pārvatīwill indeed be Pārvatī

धन्या प्रिया द्वितीया तु (dhanyā priyā dvitīyā tu) — Dhanyā, the second, the belovedDhanyā, the second, the beloved·योगिनी जनकस्य च (yoginī janakasya ca) — a yoginī, of Janakaa yoginī, of Janaka·तस्याः कन्या महालक्ष्मीः (tasyāḥ kanyā mahālakṣmīḥ) — her daughter, Mahālakṣmīher daughter, Mahālakṣmī·नाम्ना सीता भविष्यति (nāmnā sītā bhaviṣyati) — by the name Sītā, will beby the name Sītā, will be

वृषभानस्य वैश्यस्य (vṛṣabhānasya vaiśyasya) — of the vaiśya Vṛṣabhānuof the vaiśya Vṛṣabhānu·कनिष्ठा च कलावती (kaniṣṭhā ca kalāvatī) — and the youngest, Kalāvatīand the youngest, Kalāvatī·भविष्यति प्रिया (bhaviṣyati priyā) — will become the belovedwill become the beloved·राधा तत्सुता द्वापरान्ततः (rādhā tatsutā dvāparāntataḥ) — Rādhā, her daughter, at Dvāpara's endRādhā, her daughter, at Dvāpara's end

मेनका योगिनी पत्या (menakā yoginī patyā) — Menakā, the yoginī, through her husbandMenakā, the yoginī, through her husband·पार्वत्याः च वरेण च (pārvatyāḥ ca vareṇa ca) — and through Pārvatī's boonand through Pārvatī's boon·तेन देहेन कैलासं (tena dehena kailāsaṃ) — with that very body, to Kailāsawith that very body, to Kailāsa·गमिष्यति परं पदम् (gamiṣyati paraṃ padam) — will go, the supreme abodewill go, the supreme abode

धन्या च सीतया (dhanyā ca sītayā) — Dhanyā, together with SītāDhanyā, together with Sītā·सीरध्वजो जनकवंशजः (sīradhvajo janakavaṃśajaḥ) — and Sīradhvaja, born of Janaka's lineand Sīradhvaja, born of Janaka's line·जीवन्मुक्तो महायोगी (jīvanmukto mahāyogī) — liberated while living, a great yoginliberated while living, a great yogin·वैकुण्ठं च गमिष्यति (vaikuṇṭhaṃ ca gamiṣyati) — will go to Vaikuṇṭhawill go to Vaikuṇṭha

कलावती वृषभानस्य (kalāvatī vṛṣabhānasya) — Kalāvatī, of VṛṣabhānuKalāvatī, of Vṛṣabhānu·कौतुकात् कन्यया सह (kautukāt kanyayā saha) — on account of the marriage, together with her daughteron account of the marriage, together with her daughter·जीवन्मुक्ता च गोलोकं (jīvanmuktā ca golokaṃ) — liberated while living, to Golokaliberated while living, to Goloka·गमिष्यति न संशयः (gamiṣyati na saṃśayaḥ) — will go — there is no doubtwill go — there is no doubt

विना विपत्तिं महिमा (vinā vipattiṃ mahimā) — without adversity, greatnesswithout adversity, greatness·केषां कुत्र भविष्यति (keṣāṃ kutra bhaviṣyati) — for whom, where, will come aboutfor whom, where, will come about·सुकर्मिणां गते दुःखे (sukarmiṇāṃ gate duḥkhe) — for those of good deeds, sorrow having passedfor those of good deeds, sorrow having passed·प्रभवेद् दुर्लभं सुखम् (prabhaved durlabhaṃ sukham) — a rare happiness arisesa rare happiness arises

पितॄणां तनयाः यूयं (pitṝṇāṃ tanayāḥ yūyaṃ) — you, the daughters of the pitṛsyou, the daughters of the pitṛs·सर्वाः स्वर्गविलासिकाः (sarvāḥ svargavilāsikāḥ) — all, delighters in heavenall, delighters in heaven·कर्मक्षयश्च युष्माकम् (karmakṣayaśca yuṣmākam) — and the exhaustion of your karmaand the exhaustion of your karma·अभवद् विष्णुदर्शनात् (abhavad viṣṇudarśanāt) — has come about, by the sight of Viṣṇuhas come about, by the sight of Viṣṇu

इति उक्त्वा पुनः अपि आह (iti uktvā punaḥ api āha) — having said this, spoke againhaving said this, spoke again·गतक्रोधो मुनीश्वरः (gatakrodho munīśvaraḥ) — that lord of sages, his anger gonethat lord of sages, his anger gone·शिवं संस्मृत्य मनसा (śivaṃ saṃsmṛtya manasā) — having called Śiva to mindhaving called Śiva to mind·ज्ञानदं भुक्तिमुक्तिदम् (jñānadaṃ bhuktimuktidam) — the giver of knowledge, of enjoyment and liberationthe giver of knowledge, of enjoyment and liberation

अपरं शृणुत प्रीत्या (aparaṃ śṛṇuta prītyā) — hear further, with affectionhear further, with affection·मद्वचः सुखदं सदा (madvacaḥ sukhadaṃ sadā) — my word, ever a giver of happinessmy word, ever a giver of happiness·धन्या यूयं शिवप्रीता (dhanyā yūyaṃ śivaprītā) — blessed are you, beloved of Śivablessed are you, beloved of Śiva·मान्या पूज्या हि अभीक्ष्णशः (mānyā pūjyā hi abhīkṣṇaśaḥ) — worthy of honour, to be worshipped again and againworthy of honour, to be worshipped again and again

मेनायाः तनया देवी (menāyāḥ tanayā devī) — the daughter of Menā, the goddessthe daughter of Menā, the goddess·पार्वती जगदम्बिका (pārvatī jagadambikā) — Pārvatī, JagadambikāPārvatī, Jagadambikā·भविष्यति प्रिया शम्भोः (bhaviṣyati priyā śambhoḥ) — will become the beloved of Śambhuwill become the beloved of Śambhu·तपः कृत्वा सुदुस्सहम् (tapaḥ kṛtvā sudussaham) — having performed a most unbearable austerityhaving performed a most unbearable austerity

धन्यासुता स्मृता सीता (dhanyāsutā smṛtā sītā) — the daughter of Dhanyā, known as Sītāthe daughter of Dhanyā, known as Sītā·रामपत्नी भविष्यति (rāmapatnī bhaviṣyati) — will become Rāma's wifewill become Rāma's wife·लौकिकाचारम् आश्रित्य (laukikācāram āśritya) — resorting to worldly customresorting to worldly custom·रामेण विहरिष्यति (rāmeṇa vihariṣyati) — will dwell in delight with Rāmawill dwell in delight with Rāma

कलावतीसुता राधा (kalāvatīsutā rādhā) — the daughter of Kalāvatī, Rādhāthe daughter of Kalāvatī, Rādhā·साक्षाद्गोलोकवासिनी (sākṣādgolokavāsinī) — herself a dweller of Golokaherself a dweller of Goloka·गुप्तस्नेहनिबद्धा सा (guptasnehanibaddhā sā) — bound by a hidden affection, shebound by a hidden affection, she·कृष्णपत्नी भविष्यति (kṛṣṇapatnī bhaviṣyati) — will become the wife of Kṛṣṇawill become the wife of Kṛṣṇa

इत्थम् आभाष्य स मुनिः (ittham ābhāṣya sa muniḥ) — having thus spoken, that sagehaving thus spoken, that sage·भ्रातृभिः सह संस्तुतः (bhrātṛbhiḥ saha saṃstutaḥ) — praised together with his brotherspraised together with his brothers·सनत्कुमारो भगवान् (sanatkumāro bhagavān) — the blessed Sanatkumārathe blessed Sanatkumāra·तत्र एव अन्तर्हितोऽभवत् (tatra eva antarhito'bhavat) — disappeared then and theredisappeared then and there
