Brahmā tells Nārada how, when Pārvatī turned eight, Śiva, still stricken with grief for Satī, wandered the worlds sky-clad and at last returned to the mountain to meditate at Gaṅgāvatāra. Himālaya arrives with his retinue, offers a long hymn of praise, and asks to serve him; Śiva asks only that his tapas go undisturbed, and Himālaya returns home to command his people to keep away from that peak.
