Chapter 98·The Kali age turns things upside down·Verses 1–
In the Kali age no one keeps caste or the four stages of life; all men and women are against the Veda. Brahmins sell the Veda, kings eat their people, and no one obeys the Veda's rule. The road is whatever one likes; a pandit is the one who talks big; one who starts false works and loves show is called a saint. The clever one is he who robs another's wealth, the great man of conduct is the proud one, and he who tells lies and jokes is praised as a man of quality. The one who breaks the Veda's path is called wise and dispassionate, and the one with long nails and matted hair is a famous ascetic. The dohās say that those who wear ill-omened dress and ornaments and eat what should not be eaten are the yogis and siddhas, honoured in the Kali age; those who do harm are honoured and respected, and those who lie in word and deed are the speakers of this age.
