Chapter 87·The father's many sons·Verses 1–
Rāma says a father may have many sons of different qualities, character and conduct: one a scholar, one an ascetic, one wise, one rich, one brave, one generous, one all-knowing, one devoted to dharma. The father loves all of them alike. But the son who is devoted to his father in body, speech and mind, and in dream does not know any other dharma, is dear to the father as life, even if in every way he is simple. So with all beings, moving and unmoving, among animals, gods, men and demons. The whole world is made by Rāma, and he has the same kindness for all. But among them the one who gives up pride and illusion and worships him in mind, speech and body is dearest, be he man, eunuch, woman or any creature. He says: I tell you truly, crow, a clean servant is dear to me as my life; so give up hope and trust in all else and worship me.
