Chapter 57 · The crow's hill · Verses 1–

On that lovely hill lives that bird, whose death does not come even at the end of the age. The many faults and qualities Maya makes, delusion, lust and lack of discernment, fill the whole world but never go near that hill. Living there the crow worships Hari; listen with love, Umā. Under the peepul he meditates; under the pākar he chants and sacrifices; in the shade of the mango he worships in mind, leaving every other work but Hari's worship. Under the banyan he tells Hari's story, and many birds come and hear. He sings the many wondrous deeds of Rāma with love and respect, and the swans of pure mind who live by that lake hear it all. When Śiva went and saw this wonder, great joy rose in his heart. The dohā says that taking a swan's form, he lived there some time, listened with respect to Raghupati's virtues, and then went back to Kailāsa.
