Chapter 39·The nature of the wicked·Verses 1–
Rāma now tells the nature of the wicked: never seek their company even by mistake, for it always brings pain, as a bad cow ruins a good herd. The wicked burn inside, seeing another's wealth; when they hear another's blame they are glad as if they had found treasure. They are given to lust, anger, pride and greed, cruel, deceitful, crooked, a home of dirt. They hate everyone without cause, even those who do them good. Their buying and selling, their food and snacks are all false. They speak sweetly like the peacock, yet eat the deadliest snake with a hard heart. The dohā says they hate others, love others' wives, wealth and slander, and are wretched sinners in human form, man-eaters.

They are given to lust, anger, pride and greed; cruel, deceitful, crooked, and a home of filth. They hate everyone without cause, even those who do them good.

False is their taking, false their giving, false their meal and false their snack. They speak sweetly like the peacock, yet with a very hard heart swallow the deadliest snake.

Those who hate others, who love another's wife, wealth and slander, are wretched, sinful men who have taken a man's body and are man-eaters.
