A voice came from the sky in the temple: "Unlucky, ignorant, proud one, though your teacher has no anger and is kind and has right understanding, I shall still curse you, fool, for I do not like a breach of right conduct. If I do not punish you, my Vedic path will be spoiled. Fools who envy their teacher fall into the Raurava hell for a million ages, then take animal wombs, and suffer pain for ten thousand births. You sat like a python, sinner; become a serpent, full of sin and dirt, and enter the hollow of a great tree and live there, worst of the low, fallen to a low state." The teacher cried out in terror at Śiva's curse. Seeing Bhuśuṇḍi trembling, great sorrow rose in his heart. In the dohās, the pupil bows and, with joined hands before Śiva, makes a humble prayer, thinking of his terrible fate.
