Chapter 106·The teacher is slighted·Verses 1–
One day the teacher called him and taught him in many ways: the fruit of serving Śiva is unbroken devotion to Rāma's feet. Śiva and Brahmā worship Rāma, so how can a mere man be anything? How can he, who finds his joy in the feet loved by Śiva and Brahmā, wish harm to Rāma? The teacher called Śiva a servant of Hari, and Bhuśuṇḍi's heart burned; low-born and having gained knowledge, he was like a snake fed on milk. Proud and crooked, he spoke against his teacher day and night. The teacher, very kind and with no trace of anger, taught him again and again the good: whoever rises through another is destroyed first by the one he rose from; smoke born of fire is put out by the cloud it becomes; dust lying on the road suffers every foot, but the wind lifts it first, and it falls on the eyes and crowns of kings. A wise man does not keep company with the lowest; it is the poets' rule that there is no good in quarrelling with the wicked. Be neutral, shun the wicked like a dog. Bhuśuṇḍi was a wicked man with deceit and crookedness in his heart. One day, as he sat repeating Śiva's name in Śiva's temple, his teacher came, and out of pride he did not rise to greet him. The kind teacher said nothing and had no anger. But Mahādeva could not bear such a great wrong to a teacher.

Śiva and Brahmā worship Rāma, so what is a mere man? Foolish one, you whose heart loves the feet that Brahmā and Śiva love, do you want happiness by hating him?

Proud, crooked, unlucky, of low birth, I hated my teacher day and night. The very kind teacher had no trace of anger, and he taught me again and again good sense.
