युग-धर्म और गुण
The dharma of every age comes up in all hearts, driven by Rāma's Māyā. Pure goodness, evenness and realisation mark the Kṛta age, and a glad mind knows it. In Tretā goodness is plenty, passion a little, with love of action, and happiness in every way. In Dvāpara passion is great and goodness small with some darkness, and the mind is full of joy and fear. In Kali darkness is great and passion small, and opposition spreads on all sides. The wise, knowing the dharma of the ages in their minds, give up wrong and love right. The dharma of time does not touch one who deeply loves Raghupati's feet. The actor's tricky play does not touch the actor's servant. The dohās say that the faults and virtues made by Hari's Māyā do not go without worship of Hari, so worship Rāma, giving up all desire. Bhuśuṇḍi lived many years in that Kali age in Ayodhyā, until a famine came, and in his trouble he went abroad.हर युग का धर्म सबके हृदय में आता है, जिसे राम की माया प्रेरित करती है। शुद्ध सत्त्व, समता और विज्ञान कृतयुग का प्रभाव है, जिसमें मन प्रसन्न रहता है। त्रेता में सत्त्व बहुत, रजोगुण थोड़ा और कर्म में प्रीति होती है, और सब प्रकार सुख रहता है। द्वापर में रजोगुण बहुत, सत्त्व थोड़ा और कुछ तमोगुण होता है, और मन में हर्ष और भय रहता है। कलियुग में तमोगुण बहुत, रजोगुण थोड़ा है, और चारों ओर विरोध का प्रभाव है। बुद्धिमान युग-धर्म को मन में जानकर अधर्म छोड़ते और धर्म से प्रेम करते हैं। जिसकी रघुपति के चरणों में अति प्रीति है, उसे काल-धर्म नहीं व्यापता। नट की कपटपूर्ण लीला नट के सेवक को नहीं व्यापती। दोहे कहते हैं कि हरि की माया से बने दोष और गुण हरि-भजन के बिना नहीं जाते, इसलिए सब कामना छोड़कर राम को भजो। भुशुंडि उस कलिकाल में बहुत वर्ष अवध में रहे, फिर अकाल पड़ा और विपत्ति में पड़कर वे विदेश चले गए।
१1नित जुग धर्म होहिं सब केरे। हृदयँ राम माया के प्रेरे ॥सुद्ध सत्व समता बिग्याना। कृत प्रभाव प्रसन्न मन जाना ॥

त्रेता में सत्त्व बहुत है, रजोगुण थोड़ा और कर्म में रुचि; त्रेता का धर्म सब प्रकार सुख है। द्वापर में रजोगुण बहुत, सत्त्व थोड़ा और कुछ तमोगुण है; मन में हर्ष और भय रहता है।
In Tretā there is much goodness, a little passion, and love of action; the dharma of Tretā is happiness in every way. In Dvāpara there is much passion and little goodness with some darkness, and the mind knows joy and fear.

३3तामस बहुत रजोगुन थोरा। कलि प्रभाव बिरोध चहुँ ओरा ॥बुध जुग धर्म जानि मन माहीं। तजि अधर्म रति धर्म कराहीं ॥
tāmasa bahuta rajoguna thorā kali prabhāva birodha cahum̐ orā |budha juga dharma jāni mana māhīṃ taji adharma rati dharma karāhīṃ ||

कलियुग में तमोगुण बहुत और रजोगुण थोड़ा है, और चारों ओर विरोध है। बुद्धिमान लोग युग-धर्म को मन में जानकर अधर्म छोड़ते और धर्म से प्रेम करते हैं।
In Kali there is much darkness and little passion, and opposition on all sides. The wise, knowing the dharma of the ages in their minds, give up wrong and love right.

४4काल धर्म नहिं ब्यापहिं ताही। रघुपति चरन प्रीति अति जाही ॥नट कृत बिकट कपट खगराया। नट सेवकहि न ब्यापइ माया ॥

जिसकी रघुपति के चरणों में अति प्रीति है, उसे काल-धर्म नहीं व्यापता। हे खगराज, नट का कपटपूर्ण खेल नट के सेवक को नहीं व्यापता।
The dharma of time does not touch one who has deep love for Raghupati's feet. The actor's tricky play, king of birds, does not touch the actor's servant.

हरि की माया से बने दोष और गुण हरि-भजन के बिना नहीं जाते। ऐसा विचार कर, सब कामना छोड़कर राम को भजो।
The faults and virtues made by Hari's Māyā do not go without worship of Hari. Knowing this, give up all desire and worship Rāma.

हे विहगेश, उस कलिकाल में मैं बहुत वर्ष अवध में रहा। अकाल पड़ा और विपत्ति के वश होकर मैं विदेश चला गया।
