Rāma says: 'Friend, you have said well. Let us do this, if fate helps.' This plan did not please Lakṣmaṇa, and he is very pained to hear Rāma's words. He says: 'Lord, what trust is there in fate? Dry up the sea in anger. Fate is the one prop of a weak mind, and only the lazy cry "Fate, fate!"' Hearing this, Raghubīra smiled and said, 'We shall do it so. Keep your mind steady.' Having calmed his brother, Raghurāya went near the sea. First he bowed his head to it, then sat on the shore on spread kuśa grass. Just when Vibhīṣaṇa came to the Lord, Rāvaṇa had sent spies behind him. In the dohā, the spies, disguised in monkey form, saw everything, and in their hearts praised the Lord's virtues and love for those who take refuge.राम ने कहा, मित्र, तुमने उपाय अच्छा बताया, यही करेंगे यदि दैव सहायक हो। यह सलाह लक्ष्मण के मन को नहीं भाई; राम की बात सुनकर वे बहुत दुखी हुए। उन्होंने कहा, नाथ, दैव का क्या भरोसा? मन में क्रोध करके समुद्र को सुखा दीजिए। कायर मन के लिए दैव ही एक आधार है; आलसी लोग ही दैव-दैव पुकारते हैं। यह सुनकर रघुवीर हँसे और बोले, ऐसा ही करेंगे, मन में धीरज रखो। यह कहकर और अनुज को समझाकर रघुराय समुद्र के पास गए। पहले सिर नवाकर प्रणाम किया, फिर तट पर कुश बिछाकर बैठे। जब विभीषण प्रभु के पास आए थे, तभी पीछे रावण ने गुप्तचर भेजे थे। दोहे में कहा है कि उन्होंने कपट से वानर का शरीर धरकर सब चरित देखे, और हृदय में प्रभु के गुणों और शरणागत पर स्नेह की सराहना करने लगे।
