निज सुभाउ

Rāma says: 'Listen, friend, I tell you my own nature, which Bhuśuṇḍi, Śambhu and Girijā know. If a man, enemy of every being, comes to me in fear for refuge, I give up his pride, delusion, fraud and tricks and make him at once like a saint. Mother, father, brother, son, wife, body, wealth, house, friends, family: he gathers all the threads of attachment to them, twists them into a cord and binds his mind to my feet. He sees all alike, has no wish, and no joy, sorrow or fear in his mind. Such a good man lives in my heart as wealth lives in the heart of a miser. Saints like you are dear to me; I take a body for no other plea.' The dohā: those who worship the Lord with form, who delight in doing good to others, and who are firm in right conduct and vows, and who love the feet of brahmins, are dear to me as life. राम ने कहा, मित्र, सुनो, मैं अपना स्वभाव कहता हूँ, जिसे भुशुण्डि, शम्भु और गिरिजा जानते हैं। यदि कोई मनुष्य सब जीवों का द्रोही हो और भयभीत होकर मेरी शरण देखकर आए, तो मैं मद, मोह, कपट और नाना छल छोड़ा हुआ उसे तुरन्त साधु के समान कर देता हूँ। माता, पिता, भाई, पुत्र, स्त्री, शरीर, धन, घर, मित्र और परिवार: इन सबके ममता के धागे बटोरकर, उनकी डोरी बनाकर जो अपने मन को मेरे चरणों में बाँध दे, जो समदर्शी हो, जिसकी कोई इच्छा न हो, और जिसके मन में हर्ष, शोक और भय न हों, ऐसा सज्जन मेरे हृदय में वैसे बसता है जैसे लोभी के हृदय में धन। तुम जैसे सन्त मुझे प्रिय हैं; मैं और किसी कारण से देह नहीं धरता। दोहे में कहा है कि जो सगुण के उपासक हैं, दूसरों के हित में लगे रहते हैं, नीति और नियम में दृढ़ हैं और जिनका ब्राह्मणों के चरणों में प्रेम है, वे मुझे प्राणों के समान प्रिय हैं।
