Chapter Nineteen · Meghanāda binds Hanumān · Verses 1–

Hearing of his son's death, the king of Laṅkā is angry and sends the mighty Meghanāda, telling him not to kill the monkey but to bind him, so that they may see where he comes from. Indrajit, a warrior without equal, sets out, furious at the loss of his brother. Hanumān sees the fearsome fighter coming; he grinds his teeth, roars and runs at him. Hanumān pulls up a very big tree and wrecks Meghanāda's chariot. The great warriors with Meghanāda he crushes with his limbs. Having killed them, he fights the prince; the two clash like two elephant kings. He hits Meghanāda with a fist and climbs a tree; Meghanāda is stunned for a moment. He rises and works many illusions, but the son of the Wind cannot be beaten. At last he aims the Brahmā weapon. Hanumān thinks: if I do not honour the Brahmā arrow, its great glory will be lost.
