रावण की डींग
Rāma drives his chariot forward, bowing to the Brahmins' lotus feet, and Rāvaṇa rushes to meet him, roaring and threatening. He tells the ascetic that he is not like the warriors Rāma has beaten; the whole world knows the name Rāvaṇa, whose prison holds the guardians of the worlds. He reproaches Rāma for killing Khara, Dūṣaṇa and Virādha, and for slaying Vālī like a hunter; Rāma has killed night-ranger heroes, Kumbhakarṇa and Meghanāda. Today he will settle all the score, if Rāma does not run from the field; today he will give the wretch to Death. Hearing the harsh words, the Lord of mercy smiles and says: it is all true, your power is real; but do not boast, and do not show your manliness in words. Men in the world are of three kinds, like the rose, the mango and the jackfruit: one gives flowers only, one flowers and fruit, one only fruit; so some only talk, some talk and do, and some do without speaking. Rāvaṇa laughed at Rāma's words: 'You teach me knowledge; you did not fear when you made enmity with me, and now your life is dear to you.'राम रथ चलाते हैं, ब्राह्मणों के चरण-कमलों में सिर नवाकर। तब लंकेश के हृदय में क्रोध छा जाता है और वह गरजता-धमकाता सामने दौड़ता है। वह कहता है, 'तपस्वी, सुन, तूने जिन योद्धाओं को रण में जीता वे मेरे समान नहीं हैं। रावण नाम जगत में यश के साथ जाना जाता है, लोकपाल जिसके बंदीगृह में हैं।' वह उलाहना देता है कि तूने खर, दूषण और विराध को मारा, बेचारे बालि को व्याध की तरह मारा, राक्षसों के झुंड और वीरों को, कुंभकर्ण और मेघनाद को मारा। 'आज मैं सारा वैर निभा लूँगा, यदि तू रण से भाग न गया; आज मैं तुझे काल के हवाले करूँगा, तू रावण के कठिन पाले पड़ा है।' ये दुर्वचन सुनकर और उसे काल के वश जानकर कृपानिधान हँसकर बोले, 'तेरी प्रभुता सब सच है, पर बकवास मत कर, मर्दानगी दिखा।' संसार में पुरुष तीन तरह के होते हैं, गुलाब, आम और कटहल जैसे: एक केवल फूल देता है, एक फूल और फल दोनों, एक केवल फलता है; इसी तरह कोई केवल कहते हैं, कोई कहते और करते हैं, और कोई करते हैं पर कहते नहीं। राम की बात सुनकर रावण हँसा: 'मुझे ज्ञान सिखाता है; मुझसे बैर करते समय तू नहीं डरा, अब तुझे प्राण प्यारे लगे हैं।'

So saying, Raghunātha drove his chariot on, having bowed his head to the lotus feet of the Brahmins. Then anger filled the heart of the lord of Laṅkā, and he ran at him roaring and threatening.

२2जीतेहु जे भट संजुग माहीं। सुनु तापस मैं तिन्ह सम नाहीं ॥रावन नाम जगत जस जाना। लोकप जाकें बंदीखाना ॥

'तपस्वी, सुन, तूने रण में जिन योद्धाओं को जीता, मैं उनके समान नहीं हूँ। रावण नाम जगत में यश के साथ जाना जाता है; लोकपाल जिसके बंदीगृह में हैं।
'Listen, ascetic: I am not like the warriors you have beaten in battle. Rāvaṇa's name is known in the world with fame; the guardians of the worlds are in my prison.

You killed Khara, Dūṣaṇa and Virādha; you killed poor Vālī like a hunter. You struck down the host of night-ranger heroes, and killed Kumbhakarṇa and Ghananāda.

आज मैं सब बैर चुका लूँगा, यदि तू राजा रण से भाग न गया। आज मैं तुझे निश्चय ही काल के हवाले करूँगा; तू रावण के कठिन पाले पड़ा है।'
Today I will settle all the enmity, if you, king, do not run from the field. Today I will give you over to Death; you have fallen into Rāvaṇa's hard grip.'

Hearing the harsh words and knowing him to be under Death's power, the Lord of mercy smiled and said, 'All your greatness is true, but do not babble; show your manliness.'

बकवास करके अपना सुयश मत नष्ट कर, नीति सुन और क्षमा कर। संसार में पुरुष तीन तरह के होते हैं, गुलाब, आम और कटहल के समान। एक केवल फूल देता है, एक फूल और फल दोनों, एक केवल फलता है। इसी तरह कोई केवल कहते हैं, कोई कहते और करते हैं, और कोई करते हैं पर कहते नहीं।
Do not spoil your good name by boasting; hear the right way and forgive. In the world there are three kinds of men, like the rose, the mango and the jackfruit. One gives flowers only; one gives flowers and fruit; one only bears fruit. So one only speaks, one speaks and does, and one does and does not speak.

गुलाब में केवल फूल है, आम में फूल और फल दोनों, कटहल में दिखावटी फूल के बिना फल। राम का भाव है कि तू केवल बोलने वाला मत बन।
The rose bears only flowers, the mango both flowers and fruit, the jackfruit fruit without showy flower. Rāma is saying: do not be one who only talks.

राम की बात सुनकर रावण हँसा: 'तू मुझे ज्ञान सिखाता है! मुझसे बैर करते समय तू नहीं डरा, अब तुझे प्राण प्यारे लगने लगे हैं।'
