Prahasta says the ministers only say what pleases a lord, and such talk does no good. One monkey crossed the sea and burned Laṅkā, and they did not eat him then. They were pleased with themselves before, and now they say the same of the one who bound the sea and camped at Suvela. He asks his father not to think him a coward. Men who like to hear and say only pleasant things are everywhere, but a man who tells and hears hard, wholesome words is rare. He advises sending an envoy first, giving Sītā back and making friends. If she is returned, there should be no more quarrel. If not, fight him face to face.प्रहस्त कहता है कि मंत्री वही कहते हैं जो स्वामी को अच्छा लगे, और ऐसे वचनों से काम नहीं बनता। एक ही वानर समुद्र लाँघकर आया और लंका जलाई, तब उसे क्यों न खा गए? जिसने समुद्र को खेल में बाँध दिया और सेना सहित सुबेल पर उतरा, उसके बारे में भी वे मुँह फुलाकर यही कहते हैं। वह पिता से कहता है कि उसे कायर न समझें। मीठी बातें सुनने-कहने वाले जगत में बहुत हैं, पर कठोर और हितकारी बात कहने-सुनने वाले कम हैं। वह सलाह देता है कि पहले दूत भेजें, सीता को लौटाकर मित्रता करें; और यदि सीता को पाकर वे लौट जाएँ तो झगड़ा न बढ़ाएँ, नहीं तो आमने-सामने डटकर लड़ें।

तब क्या तुम्हें भूख नहीं थी? जब वह नगर जला रहा था तब पकड़कर खा क्यों नहीं लिया? अच्छी बात सुनकर इन्हें दुःख हुआ, इसीलिए इन्होंने स्वामी को ऐसा मत सुनाया।
Were you not hungry then? Why did you not seize him and eat him when he burned the city? They heard good counsel and were pained, so they have given the master this advice.

Few are the men who speak hard words that do the most good, or who listen to them. First send a messenger to him, hear this counsel, give back Sītā, and then make peace.'

'यदि वे स्त्री को पाकर लौट जाएँ तो झगड़ा मत बढ़ाइए। नहीं तो पिताजी, रणभूमि में सामने डटकर हठपूर्वक उन्हें मारिए।'
'If they get the woman and go back, do not make the quarrel any bigger. If not, father, then stand face to face on the field and fight them with all your will.'
