Prahasta says that if his father follows this advice, he will win good name both ways. Rāvaṇa angrily asks who taught him such counsel. He says the boy is like the ghamoī weed that grows from a bamboo's root and ruins it. The son leaves, hurt by the harsh words. The poet says this is how good advice sounds to one whom Time has seized. At dusk Rāvaṇa goes to the hall at the top of Laṅkā, where kinnaras sing his praise, instruments play and the dancers perform. He enjoys himself like a hundred Indras, with no fear though a mighty enemy stands over him.प्रहस्त कहता है कि यदि पिता यह मत मानें तो दोनों तरह से जगत में उनका यश होगा। रावण क्रोध से पूछता है कि ऐसी बुद्धि तुझे किस मूर्ख ने सिखाई। वह कहता है कि पुत्र बाँस की जड़ में उगे घमोई घास जैसा हो गया है, जो बाँस को ही नष्ट करती है। पिता की कठोर वाणी सुनकर पुत्र कड़वी बात कहकर घर चला जाता है। कवि कहता है कि जिसे काल ने पकड़ लिया हो, उसे हितकारी बात ऐसी लगती है जैसे दवा मरते हुए को। सन्ध्या होने पर रावण लंका के शिखर पर बने भवन में जाता है, जहाँ किन्नर गुण गाते हैं, वाद्य बजते हैं और अप्सराएँ नाचती हैं। वह सौ इन्द्रों के समान भोग करता है; शत्रु उसके सिर पर है, फिर भी न चिन्ता है, न डर।

At the top of Laṅkā stood a hall, very wonderful, where there was a dance floor. Rāvaṇa went and sat in that palace, and the kinnaras began to sing his praises.
