Vibhīṣaṇa goes back to Rāma and tells him that Kumbhakarṇa, with a body like a mountain, is coming. The monkeys hear this, shout and rush at him, hurling trees and rocks, crores upon crores of peaks at once. His mind does not turn and his body does not move, like an elephant struck with akanda fruits. Hanumān punches him and he falls and shakes his head, then rises and strikes Hanumān, who reels to the ground. He flings Nala and Nīla down, tosses warriors about, and the monkey army scatters in fear. He tucks Aṅgada and the others, with Sugrīva, under his arm and goes off with the king of monkeys.विभीषण भाई की बात सुनकर राम के पास लौटता है और बताता है कि पर्वत जैसे शरीर वाला कुंभकर्ण आ रहा है। वानर यह सुनकर किलकारी मारकर दौड़ते हैं, पेड़ और पर्वत उठा-उठाकर उस पर फेंकते हैं, एक-एक बार में करोड़ों चोटियाँ। न उसका मन डिगता है, न शरीर हिलता है, जैसे हाथी पर आक के फल मारे गए हों। हनुमान उसे घूँसा मारते हैं तो वह गिरकर सिर धुनता है, फिर उठकर हनुमान को मारता है और वे चक्कर खाकर धरती पर गिरते हैं। वह नल और नील को पटक देता है, योद्धाओं को इधर-उधर पटकता है और वानर सेना भय से भाग खड़ी होती है। अंगद आदि को मूर्छित करके वह सुग्रीव समेत काँख में दबाकर चल पड़ता है।

Hearing his brother's words, Vibhīṣaṇa went to where the Lord of the three worlds was. 'Lord, Kumbhakarṇa is coming, steady in battle, with a body like a mountain.'

वानरों ने जब यह कानों से सुना तो बलवान होकर किलकारी मारते दौड़े। उन्होंने पेड़ और पर्वत उठा लिए और दाँत किटकिटाते हुए उस पर फेंकने लगे।
When the monkeys heard this, they shouted and rushed at him, strong as they were. They picked up trees and mountains, gnashed their teeth and threw them at him.
