Hearing his wife's words, which were like arrows, Rāvaṇa goes to court at dawn and sits on the throne, swollen with pride and forgetting all fear. Rāma calls Aṅgada, who bows at his lotus feet, and Rāma seats him near with respect and asks smiling: the crowns Aṅgada threw were Rāvaṇa's, so how did he get them? Aṅgada says they are not crowns but the four qualities of a king: conciliation, giving, punishment and division, which live in a king's heart. They are the four feet of policy and dharma, and so they came to Rāma. Rāvaṇa is without dharma, turned from the Lord's feet, ruled by Time, so the qualities left him. Rāma laughs at this clever answer, and Aṅgada tells the whole news of the fort.
