Mandodarī says the one who bound the sea in play and has come down at Suvela with his army, the compassionate banner of the Sun's line, sent a messenger for Rāvaṇa's good. That messenger crushed his strength in court as a lion crushes elephants. Yet Rāvaṇa calls him a man again and again, and is full of empty pride, possessiveness and arrogance. She mourns that no good sense rises in a mind taken by Time. Time kills no one with a rod: he takes away dharma, strength, intelligence and judgement. When death is near, a man is confused as Rāvaṇa is. In the dohā she says that two sons are dead and the city burned, and begs him to end this now, worship Raghunātha and win spotless fame.

'He who bound the lord of the waters in play, who came down at Suvela with his army, the compassionate banner of the Sun's line, has sent a messenger for your good.

The one who crushed your strength in the middle of the court like a lion among a herd of elephants, whose attendants are Aṅgada and Hanumān, brave and fierce in battle,

him, dear, you call a man again and again, carrying empty pride, possessiveness and arrogance. Alas, husband, you made enmity with Rāma, and no wisdom rises in a mind in the grip of Time.

Time never struck anyone with a rod. He takes away dharma, strength, wisdom and judgement. When Time comes near to someone, my lord, he is confused just as you are.
