Rāvaṇa says blessed is the monkey who dances anywhere for his master and drops all shame; Aṅgada, he says, is loyal like the rest of his kind. Aṅgada replies ironically: Hanumān told him how Rāvaṇa values virtue, since though he wrecked the garden, killed his son and burned the city, Rāvaṇa feels no shame or anger. Rāvaṇa answers with a taunt about Aṅgada's father, and Aṅgada says he spares him only for Vālī's pure fame. He asks how many Rāvaṇas there are in the world, and names those he has heard of: one tied up in the stable by Bali's children, one seized by Sahasrabāhu like an animal and freed by Pulastya, and one held in Vālī's armpit. He asks which of them Rāvaṇa is.

Aṅgada, your kind is loyal to its master. Why do you not praise your lord's virtues in the same way? I am a judge of virtue, and very wise. I pay no heed to your harsh babble.'

The monkey said, 'Hanumān told me truly how fond you are of virtue. He destroyed the garden, killed your son and burned your city, and still, it seems, he did you no harm.

Thinking of that, and of your lovely nature, ten-headed one, I was bold with you. I came and saw what the monkey had said: in you is neither shame nor anger nor rage.'

'If you had such sense, monkeys ate your father!' Saying this the ten-headed one laughed. 'I would have eaten your father, and then you. Only now do I begin to understand.'
