छत्र मुकुट ताटंक
Hearing Hanumān, Rāma smiles. Looking south he asks Vibhīṣaṇa about the clouds and lightning there. Vibhīṣaṇa says it is neither: it is Rāvaṇa's hall at the top of Laṅkā. The dark canopy over his head is the cloud, Mandodarī's earrings are the lightning, and the music of cymbals and drums is the thunder. Knowing his pride, Rāma smiles, puts an arrow to the bow and with one shot brings down the umbrella, crown and earrings. No one in the court understood what had happened. The arrow returned to the quiver. Rāvaṇa's court was struck with fear and the entertainment was spoiled.हनुमान की बात सुनकर चतुर राम हँसे। दक्षिण दिशा की ओर देखकर उन्होंने विभीषण से बादल और बिजली के बारे में पूछा। विभीषण ने कहा कि यह न बिजली है, न बादल, यह लंका के शिखर पर रावण का नृत्य-भवन है। उसके सिर पर काला छत्र बादल की घटा है, मंदोदरी के कर्णफूल बिजली हैं और ताल-मृदंग की मधुर ध्वनि गर्जना है। राम उसका अभिमान समझकर मुस्कराए, धनुष चढ़ाकर बाण साधा और एक ही बाण से छत्र, मुकुट और कर्णफूल गिरा दिए। सभा में कोई मर्म नहीं समझ सका। बाण लौटकर तरकश में आ गया। रावण की सभा भय से भर गई और उत्सव का रंग भंग हो गया।

'विभीषण, दक्षिण दिशा में देखो। घने बादल और बिजली की चमक है। घने बादल मधुर-मधुर गरज रहे हैं। कहीं कठोर ओले न बरस जाएँ।'
'Look, Vibhīṣaṇa, to the south. Thick clouds and the play of lightning. The dark clouds rumble sweetly. May no hard hail fall.'

विभीषण बोले, 'हे कृपालु, सुनिए। यह न बिजली है, न बादलों की माला। लंका के शिखर पर एक भवन है, वहाँ रावण नाच देख रहा है।
Vibhīṣaṇa said, 'Hear me, kind Lord. It is neither lightning nor a line of clouds. On top of Laṅkā is a hall, and Rāvaṇa is watching the dancing there.
chatra meghaḍaṃbara sira dhārī soi janu jalada ghaṭā ati kārī |maṃdodarī śravana tāṭaṃkā soi prabhu janu dāminī damaṃkā ||

जो मेघ जैसा बड़ा छत्र उसने सिर पर धारण किया है, वही काली घटा है। मंदोदरी के कानों के कर्णफूल ही बिजली की चमक हैं।
The umbrella with its cloud-like canopy that he wears over his head, that is the black bank of clouds. The earrings in Mandodarī's ears are the lightning flashes.

४4बाजहिं ताल मृदंग अनूपा। सोइ रव मधुर सुनहु सुरभूपा ॥प्रभु मुसुकान समुझि अभिमाना। चाप चढ़ाइ बान संधाना ॥

और ताल और मृदंग की अनुपम ध्वनि ही वह मधुर गर्जना है, हे देवताओं के स्वामी।' उसका अभिमान समझकर प्रभु मुस्कराए। उन्होंने धनुष चढ़ाया और बाण साधा।
And the unmatched sound of cymbals and drums is that sweet thunder, O lord of gods.' Understanding his pride, the Lord smiled. He strung the bow and set the arrow.

दोहा १३(क)दोहा 13(क)छत्र मुकुट ताटंक तब हते एकहीं बान।सबकें देखत महि परे मरमु न कोऊ जान ॥ १३(क) ॥

एक ही बाण से उन्होंने छत्र, मुकुट और कर्णफूल काट गिराए। सबके देखते-देखते वे धरती पर गिरे, पर किसी ने मर्म नहीं जाना।
With one arrow he struck down the umbrella, the crown and the earrings. While everyone watched they fell to the ground, and no one understood what it meant.

ऐसा खेल करके राम का बाण लौटकर तरकश में आ गया। रावण की सारी सभा भयभीत हो गई, यह बड़ा रंग-भंग देखकर।
After this sport, Rāma's arrow came back and went into the quiver. Rāvaṇa's whole court was afraid, seeing the great spoiling of the fun.
