गिरि त्रिकूट
After offering water for his brother on the shore, Sampāti tells his story. He and Jaṭāyu flew up toward the sun when young. Jaṭāyu turned back from the heat, but Sampāti, proud, went near, and his wings burned. A sage named Candramā pitied him, taught him, and told him that in the Tretā age Brahman would take a human body and his wife would be carried off by the king of demons; messengers would come searching and he would show them Sītā, and his wings would grow again. Sampāti sees that the sage's word has come true. He tells them that Sītā is in the Aśoka garden in Laṅkā, on the mountain Trikūṭa, and that he can see her from far, though old age keeps him from helping.समुद्र-तट पर भाई को जलांजलि देकर सम्पाति अपनी कथा कहता है। जवानी में वह और जटायु आकाश में सूर्य के निकट उड़े। जटायु ताप न सह सका और लौट आया, पर अभिमानी सम्पाति पास गया और उसके पंख जल गए। चन्द्रमा नाम के एक मुनि ने उस पर दया की, उसे ज्ञान सुनाया और बताया कि त्रेता में ब्रह्म मनुष्य-शरीर धरेगा, उसकी स्त्री को राक्षसराज हर लेगा, प्रभु के दूत उसे खोजने आएँगे और तू उन्हें सीता दिखाएगा, तब तेरे पंख फिर उगेंगे। सम्पाति देखता है कि मुनि की वाणी आज सत्य हुई। वह बताता है कि लंका त्रिकूट पर्वत पर है, उसके अशोक वन में सीता बैठी शोक कर रही हैं; गिद्ध की दृष्टि अपार है, पर बूढ़ा होने से वह सहायता नहीं कर सकता।

समुद्र के तट पर भाई की क्रिया करके उसने अपनी कथा कही: 'हे वानर वीरो, सुनो। हम दोनों भाई पहली जवानी में उड़कर आकाश में सूर्य के निकट गए।
After doing the last rites for his brother on the shore of the sea, he told his own story: 'Listen, monkey heroes. We two brothers, in early youth, flew up into the sky toward the sun.

वह ताप नहीं सह सका और लौट आया। मैं अभिमानी था, सूर्य के पास चला गया। अपार ताप से मेरे पंख जल गए और मैं घोर चीख मारकर धरती पर गिरा।
Jaṭāyu could not bear the heat and turned back. I was proud, and went close to the sun. My wings burned in that boundless heat and I fell to the ground with a terrible scream.

३3मुनि एक नाम चंद्रमा ओही। लागी दया देखी करि मोही ॥बहु प्रकार तेंहि ग्यान सुनावा । देहि जनित अभिमानी छड़ावा ॥

उन्होंने कहा, 'त्रेता में ब्रह्म मनुष्य का शरीर धरेगा। उसकी स्त्री को राक्षसराज हर लेगा। प्रभु उसकी खोज में दूत भेजेंगे; उनसे मिलने पर तू पवित्र हो जाएगा।
He said, 'In the Tretā age Brahman will take a human body. The king of demons will carry off his wife. The Lord will send messengers to search for her, and by meeting them you will be made pure.
jamihahiṃ paṃkha karasi jani ciṃtā tinhahi dekhāi dehesu taiṃ sītā |muni kai girā satya bhai ājū suni mama bacana karahu prabhu kājū ||

तेरे पंख फिर उग आएँगे, चिन्ता मत कर। तू उन्हें सीता को दिखा देना।' आज मुनि की वाणी सच हो गई। मेरी बात सुनकर प्रभु का काम करो।
Your wings will grow again; do not worry. You will show them Sītā.' Today the sage's word has come true. Listen to what I say and do the Lord's work.

त्रिकूट पर्वत के ऊपर लंका बसी है। वहाँ स्वभाव से निर्भय रावण रहता है। वहाँ एक अशोक वाटिका है, जहाँ सीता बैठी शोक में डूबी हैं।
Laṅkā stands on top of the mountain Trikūṭa. Rāvaṇa lives there, naturally fearless. There is an Aśoka garden, and in it Sītā sits, sunk in sorrow.

दोहा २८दोहा 28मैं देखउँ तुम्ह नाहि गीघहि दृष्टि अपार।बूढ भयउँ न त करतेउँ कछुक सहाय तुम्हार ॥ २८ ॥

मैं उसे देखता हूँ, तुम नहीं देख सकते, क्योंकि गिद्ध की दृष्टि अपार होती है। मैं बूढ़ा हो गया हूँ; नहीं तो तुम्हारी कुछ सहायता ज़रूर करता।'
I can see her, though you cannot, for vultures have limitless sight. I have grown old; otherwise I would have helped you a little.'
