While the monkeys talk, the vulture Sampāti hears them from a cave. He comes out, sees many monkeys and rejoices that fate has given him food after many hungry days. The monkeys are afraid, and Jāmbavān is troubled. Aṅgada says that no one is as blessed as Jaṭāyu, who gave up his body for Rāma's work and went to Hari's city. Hearing this, Sampāti comes close, speaking with both joy and sorrow. He makes the monkeys unafraid and asks about Jaṭāyu. On hearing of his brother's deed he praises Raghupati, and asks to be taken to the sea shore to offer water for his brother.
