The month is over and the monkeys have found nothing. Aṅgada says that death awaits them either way: Sugrīva will kill them if they go back, and he killed Aṅgada's father and would have killed Aṅgada too had Rāma not protected him. The monkeys are silent with tears, and then declare that they will not go back without news of Sītā. They go to the sea shore and sit on kusha grass. Seeing Aṅgada's grief, Jāmbavān tells stories and urges him not to think of Rāma as a man but as Brahman beyond qualities, who takes birth by his own wish for the gods, the earth, cows and brahmins.

Here the monkeys thought among themselves: 'The time has run out and nothing is done.' They all said to one another, 'Brothers, what shall we do without news?'

Aṅgada said, his eyes full of tears, 'Death is certain for us either way. We have found no news of Sītā here, and if we go back the monkey king will kill us.

By his own wish the Lord takes birth for the sake of the gods, the earth, the cows and the brahmins. Worshippers of God with form give up all hope of liberation and stay with him there.
